Maple Ibanez M340 6-STRING ACOUSTIC

This guitar predates 1975, I know this because there is no serial number and Ibanez didn't start using the serial number till after 1975. It also comes with the original hard shell case also in good condition and if you can believe this a guitar strap fom the 70's made by the silver eagle guitar strap company also in real good codition. But, I didn't think the M-340 was around that early; I thought the M-series came after the Concords in the late '70s. Look toward the neck block inside the body of the guitar and see if you spot a serial number.... I looked there before and every where else for a serial number and found none which I found a bit strange,well that caused my curiosity to be inspired and I started researching the guitar and I found some answers to my questions. By going to other websites I learned that because the guitar has no serial # the guitar was built before 1975 if you noticed I used the word built and not manufactured is because on the label inside the body it says the guitar was hand built to exacting standards in Japan and not manufactured in Korea thats pretty cool too, being hand built and not manufactured   Chazmo Username: Chazmo Registered: 3-2007 Posted on Friday, July 27, 2007 - 1:33 pm:    That's interesting, Mikel. You may well be right about that, but I haven't seen the M series that early. Without a serial number, there's no way to confirm, except you're right that there was a period before the mid-70s where IBZ didn't have serials. I can only go by the catalog information that I know about. In particular, http://db.musik-meinl.de/index.php?direct_mainmenu =/service/katalogarchiv has probably the most complete on-line list. The earliest mention of the Maple series seems to be 1979. Pretty much all the IBZ guitars from the 1970s and early 80s were MIJ (made in Japan), mikel. That's indeed one of the reasons we treasure these guitars. Hoshino's contract manufacturers around Japan almost universally did a beautiful job constructing / building their Ibanez designs (many of which were close copies of the American manufacturers). Ultimately, the quality of these guitars is what must have instigated Gibson to file a lawsuit against Hoshino.
