Paul:

Have you checked out the conversation entitled PR-400 in this section? Sounds like there are several guitars like this that have different model numbers.

Hi Paul, about your Ragtime Special R640STV,
yup, got two of them, great acoustic guitars.
Mine are both 1981 vintage....one is a R640STV and the othe is a R400S.
Don't see many, like to get the other two just to complete the set. Dave.

GUys:

Does the 640 have a solid top and the 400 have a lamintated one? If so, do you notice a difference?

Hello John, there were 4 verions of ragtime specials: R400, R460, R620S & R640S. The 400 & 460 had mahogany back and sides, and spruce top, both had mahogany necks...
The 620 had rosewood back and sides, soild spruce top and mahogany neck.
The 640 had maple back and sides, soild spruce top and mahogany neck.
BOTH the 620 & 640 also had sound boxes (like tube chambers) built inot there "D" shaped sound holes. (The 400 & 460 didn't have this feature)
They all play and sound great, the 620 & 640 alittle brighter, but all are loud... Dave.
