Futura/Moderne Question

The Ibanez Futura has what I would consider an off-the-shelf headstock and isn't a copy of the Moderne's headstock. Does anyone know why that was? Definitely a "distinctive" headstock. I have an Epi clone which I think is a more faithful repro than the Ibanez but...it's not an Ibanez. I thought that 5 Gibson prototypes were made, of which, Billy Gibbons owns one?
