Ibanez LP - set neck? Need verification

He reports it's from March '76 and has a set neck. However I believe that the guitars from this era didn't have the open book headstock. That will settle it. Or go check it out. If it's a 2350, it's a bolt-on, and could conceivably have a C76... serial number. How much does he want for it? I haven't studied the 2350/2650 differences in detail, but I thought it was simply a case of one being bolt-neck with arched top, while the other is setneck with solid top (which I can't tell from the above pic)?   Lespaul Username: Lespaul Registered: 10-2004 Posted on Tuesday, September 04, 2007 - 1:07 am:    Flatbag, There are some subtle differences. The Ibanez logo on the headstock is the most obvious (slanted on 2650 only) but 2650 also has different truss rod cover inscription and a different bridge (with the tiny threaded poles screwed directly into the solid top). Other than that I believe i can see enough of the heel of the guitar in the picture to see it is a bolt on. As far as we know the start of the use of serial numbers was in August 1975. Headstock transformations happened on different moments for each Gibson-like model. It depended on what was left in stock. They didn't throw away good necks. And they also didn't glue wings on a bound open book headstock to cut it into tulip shape. On the Smooth's 2355 website for example, he writes about the transformation of the headstock of this jazzbox in May 1976. So, it is possible that this is an open book headstock with a C76xxxx serial number. I even have a model 2370 (ES 345 copy) with open book headstock, serial number G76XXXX. It was in nice condition, but I couldn't justify the $600 AUD. The guy was friendly though. If anyone is interested it's on eBay Australia for $510 AUD right now... also comes with a nice little parts/pedals brochure that must've come with the guitar.
