Hey there,
I have a white Starfield Flying V that my Dad bought for me brand new in about 77 or 78. It has a bolt on neck and besides the colour looks just like the guitar seen here:

(That bass is very cool.. I'd love to find oen to match my guitar..)

Mine has the same pick ups with the black open covers and tuners with the star on the back. At that time the dealer I got it from said it was made by Ibanez. This guitar plays great. I've never found a Gibson V (Including a 82 Korina version..) that plays as well.

Can anyone tell me about these older Starfield guitars?

I'll get a photo of it and post here later on..

Thanks,
Jeff.

Jeff,

As far as I know, Ibanez had guitars, mostly copies, made under the "starfield" name in the 70s/80s, and then reintroduced the starfield name in the early '90s with a line of short lived totally original designs. "star field" (or constellation) is the English translation of "Hoshino", the japanese family that owns the company. I've seen the older starfields come up on eBay, usually either Vs or hollow-body ES173 style guitars.

You can read more about the later generation of Starfield here:

Thanks for that link Sven..

I actually have two of these guitars..

The first one my Dad bought was well played back in my high school and then on into my bar band days until I could afford a "real" guitar. I bought a Strat in 86 and retired the V. The V was pretty beat up by then, and I had a girlfriend that was going to repaint it for me and make it nice looking again. So in the middle of painting it she got pissed at me, we broke up, and didn't finish it. So that one sits in the case in pieces and half painted.

I opened the case one day a couple of years back and after looking at it I did a search for Starfield on Ebay and came across another one exactly like it. It also happened to be only about an hour away from here. Since then I have been searching Ebay every week and have never seen another one like it.

So now I have a half painted one and one that has a few spots on it but is pretty much like I owned in high school.

Anyone lese own a guitar like this?

Thanks,
Jeff
