Hi. I was wondering, I'm looking to buy a Ibanez Les Paul copy and I was wondering if someone could post some information about the different models, and which ones are preferable. I dont care about lawsuit models, I'm just interested in buying one that will play great. Thanks.

Hi Sholo

There are many Ibanez Les Paul copies but if you want a really good one you should go for the 1976-1978 solid top/set neck ones.
These are way better than the bolt-on/arched (hollow) top Les Pauls. Some models have set neck combined with arched top; they are better than the bolt on models, but don't have the fat Les Paul sound eather.

I'm sorry. There are no 2651's on e-bay. At least none that state explicitly in the description that they are 2651, unless its like on ebay germany or something.... Please post a direct link. Thanks

If you can't find an old Ibanez, maybe check out a new Edwards from ESP. Just a suggestion. I have an E-LP 90 LTS...if I can figure out how to post pics again I will, but these are really nice guitars. Very authentic, husky Les Paul bark, and solid craftsmanship.

I'm not trying to deter you from an Ibanez, just saying there are other options.

Wow! Beautiful guitar, but a little above my price range. (wife is tough with my allowance, lol)I was looking at an edwards possibly. How do they compare to the Gibson Les Paul sound? I had my heart set on an Ibanez clone, but if they are all at that price, I must give up my dream :-(((.

The 2350 models are much cheaper (half that price) but are way inferior compared to the 2651. I doubt you can find a better LP model within this price range.

I am very pleased John!
I had to work somethings out with Dave before I could buy it since I am overseas. Otherwise it wouldn't even have come this far. I'd have snagged it right away.

I have never seen a 2651 ever. If it is as good as the 2650 are this is a killer guitar and Dave says it is good so where could I go wrong.....

Now let's hope Dave doesn't feel too bad about letting it go. For me the easy but at the same time oh so difficult part of waiting has begun......

I was wondering if this sellers claim of $2600 AU for a similar model is true or Hogwash?

Very nice $700 guitar.........Just sold a NEAR MINT burgandy one for $850..These guitars are VERY NICE-equal or better than the crap that Nashville was putting out in the late 70's (remember the mini humbucker ?)and somewhat rare, but $1,100 ? A bit pricy for my taste..I'd love to get that much for the 1977 MINT Cherry Burst Custom I have to sell....

Paul,

Nice looking Les Paul Standard you got there!

Looks a lot like the standand I have except mine has Super 80 pickups and the fancy stop tail piece.

Let us know how you like the guitar:

HEY!

Is anyone out there playing their Ibanez Les Paul's on gigs? or even jam sessions?

What's your opinion of them?

To me a gig is the best testing ground for how a guitar really sounds.

After reading this thread I just might take my Ibanez LP Standard to a gig this Sunday.

Even my modest bolt-on 2350, which is not even close to the best Ibanez LP made, can shread at most any gig. Pluged into a Digitech RP-12 and a Marshall full stack it's most everything you(I) could want in a LP.

I won't even comment on the Ibanez set neck models, which are far better built, with both material and sound quality to spare.

So plug that puppy in and give it a whirl.

Ofcourse! I gig them all if they pass the squealing test in the rehearsal room. Quite a few 2350's have an uncontrolable feedback problem at high volumes. Some are without problems though.....

PAul...The feedback problem is controlable-ya just have to wax pot the pups, they get a bit loose after 25 years or so !

Hi Dave,

Some of the 2350's with feedback problems have uncovered pups. (either super70's or aftermarket ones) Still the feedback. IMNSHO it is the hollow construction, likely combined with the relatively huge pupcavities.

Paul,

Uncovered pickups can still be remedied from squeal with wax potting - remember it's the copper windings under tape that get loose causing the squeal. Chambers would cause more of a howl than a squeal in my experience. I have this problem in my 2387 ('67 V) which although it's not chambered, it has a bit of room under the pickguard (not a swimming pool, but enough to be the possible problem). Wax potting reduced the howl, but not as much as I had hoped. I'm thinking of putting a bit of foam padding underneath the pickups to give them a bit of added support next time I have it apart.

Hi All

Won't believe this:
Long before I collected Ibanez (early nineties) I bought a 2351M which had serious feedback problems also, which I thought came from the "chambers" between the top and actual body. I took the whole thing apart and stuffed the chambers with pieces of cloth that were drenched in plaster (!!!!!).
The result: less feedback, but boy, was that guitar heavy!
Later on I took the whole guitar apart again, got rid of the body and used the neck and the hardware for a self-made guitar project which resulted in a nice looking Explorer. I sold that one later.
Of course, later on I did regret the fact that I just did not keep the Ibanez (in original and excellent condition) as it was......

Kind greetz,
Harry
