First of all, thank you for allowing me on this wonderfull board :-)
This is my first post here, and the perhaps a start of many, IF i get into the Ibanez world.
I am not in because I dont know if I should by an Ibanez 2661, that im being offered. I dont have pictures, and have not seen it :-), but it is according to the seller in good condition, and without changes being made to it. Its is sunburst and have the vine-inlays on the fretboard. He is offering it to me for 400 us-dollars. Should I even spend my time looking at it for that price ? I have looked EVERYwhere to find a price estimate on it..
If i buy it i will post pics in here, and talk with you geeks about it :-)

Thanks in advance
from a fellow geek

Hi Jimmi

The model 2661 is pretty rare and I sure wish somebody would offer an original one to me for 400 dollars. I would not have to think twice!!!!
I hope that you will like it as it is; if it should turn out to be not the guitar you expected, please don't modify it by putting in other pickups, mini switches, tuners or whatever.
In such a case I would be very interested to buy it from you and give you 150 dollars more!
I already have the black version.
Here's a picture of both the sunburst 2661 and the black 2660BK.
Please keep me in mind in case you decide not to buy it or if you later on ever want to sell it!

Kind greetz,
Harry

Ohh..there you are :-0

That sounds awesome. I will give it a look and a bend then !
Im mostly in it for the sound( Im not a collector. Though I like to have many instruments) But it sure looks better than any original Gibson I have ever seen. The finish looks more like a PRS to me, and thats a nice thing. Looking forward to saturday !
And I will have you in mind IF I would sell it. Will keep this site in my favorites. I know you appriciate it, but again Im buying to play, not to make money..

I will look out for cool Ibanez guitars her in cold Denmark for all of you guys, and post them in here..

Have a nice day

I've played many PRS guitars over the years...only been impressed with a few...the most apparent thing about them is the influence of Ibanez. I still don't know why some stock PRS guitars command 2-4k when an AR-500 is a better guitar for far less.

Jimi

I hope you will not be disappointed, but you will HAVE to know in advantage that this 2661 is not to be compared to a real G##son. The Ibanez has a bolt-on neck and an arched top (so it is not a solid top), resulting in hollow "chambers" between the plywood top and the actual body. This may cause a higher risk on feedback problems.
Also, the flamed top is just a veneer....
I write you this, because I now know that you're searching as a player and not as a collector.

Therefore my question: if you don't like what you find saturday, please buy this guitar anyway at that 400 bucks price. I'll buy it from you then.

Hi

Yes Im looking for a solid top. So thats a bit disappointing. Already have a great semi-hollow.And Im sorry to say that Ive miscalculated . He is asking 480 us-dollars. Thats 3000,- danish kroners. Ive added the link.Im not so finacially blessed so that I can buy a guitar just for the looks, so I probably wont buy it.I can go out there and bargain with him. And perhaps get at a price so that you can buy it too. Remember that I live in Denmark ! Dont know how much the postage will be ?
well here is the link(its danish. any danish readers can confirm my story :-)

Hi Jimi

I think you can go and get it for me.
After all you can judge about the condition of the guitar and decide if it's worth the price. If he sticks to 480 dollars it's still fine with me, but it would be nice if you could get something off (after all: I'm Dutch)
The shipping will not be a very hard matter, since I live in Holland.
Within Europe the international shipping is not that expensive (by Post is cheapest, I believe it's around 25 euro so)

If you would do so I would highly appreciate it.

Please come back to me when you know the price of the guitar, plus what you want to have for your effort and time, plus the shipping costs.
You can mail me at G.Kruisselbrink1@chello.nl

I didnt go look for it. I was out partying till 5 in the morning. And since I wasnt interested anyway, I just skipped the meeting. Its quite an effort I have to lay in this. Go see it, judge it,take pics, ship it off and so on. I COULD contact him again. But whats in it for me ? Its several of hours of "work" for me. And Im not that broke so as a 100 dollars makes my day. I know it sounds like im trying to push the price, but Im actually quite busy..Sorry :-(

Harry, man if it were me, I'd at least snapped off some pictures and put you in direct contact with the seller.

I've helped some complete strangers in the Ibanez community and it's always come back to me in goodness.

We all know that you continually contribute to the Ibanez Collectors community.... your efforts are appreciated, and that's not just lip service.

Also, FWIW - I found some website translators that help some on that site... although they don't help with the images.

Hi Brentm

Yeah...was kinda disappointed. First HE asks for help and I jumped in twice to give him information and besides I told him to be careful because it probably was not going to be the guitar he was looking for. So because of that I saved him a trip to the seller that he would have made last Saturday to check the guitar out.
I could ask HIM the same question he asked me: what was in there for me?
Well, let's look upon it this way....he's a newbie on this board and I think he is not yet familiar with the fact that we are sort of a big family here and that we do each other a favour from time to time without thinking of our own profit.

Anyway Brentm: thanks for your help and effort, but I still can't figure out where to click in order to get in contact with the seller.

Hi all!

Problem solved!!!
I got a mail from this very kind Danish fella Peter Björn Madsen who bought the 2661 last sunday.
(Jimi did not even bother to call the appointment with the seller off last Saturday....the seller called Jimi and J. just told him that he was not interested anymore, without giving any reason)

Peter Björn felt sorry for me by JimiH's blunt attitude and for the fact that this JimiH did not even react by giving me the email adress or phone number of the seller.

To cut a long story short: Peter Björn offered me the guitar for the same price as for what it was for sale in the Danish auction! WITHOUT hunting for own profit......

I tell you: this is soooo nice of him and I want to thank him again on this board.

Fellow Ibaneezers: JimiH is NOT the standard for Danish attitude.....

PETER BJÖRN MADSEN, I'LL NEVER FORGET THIS!!!!

Hi Harry,

I hope the guitar is a nice one - I know you have high standards. That JimiH guy sure has sh.t in his own nest hasn't he?? I could not believe the change in attitude this guy displayed.

How did the other Dutch guy get involved and come to contact you? Is he a member here??

It terms of going the extra mile for our family here, I drove 1,600Kms (round trip) to personally deliver a guitar for Six and I'd gladly check out any guitar in Adelaide for board members here.

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Mark

You must have missed something: the "other guy" was not Dutch, but he was Danish too. He also saw the Danish auction site with the 2661 on it, got interested, searched for info about this guitar and landed on ICW, finding the thread of JimiH.

Guess we don't see JimiH. here too often anymore....and that's good, for this is not a place for a**holes!

Hi all!

Tadááááá!!!!!
Here it is, the 2661 from Danmark. Still in Danmark with Peter Björn, but soon to be added in my collection.
Anybody has an original 4-layer white pickguard for this one?
Otherwise I have to look for a (new) replacement, but these mostly have 3 layers, or am I wrong?

As I do not hope to be known in all future as "the other Dutch guy" (as Harry also pointed out, I'm Danish ), I find it appropriate to come forward with my first mail on ICW. Yes, Mark, I am a member of ICW – I registered with JohnS April 3rd, some time before this Jimi business, but I have been aware of ICW about three years, originally finding a link through Hasy and Harry's Ibanez-Vintage-Page.
Being more of a generalist in terms of collecting guitars than being an Ibanez specialist I have been rather reluctant to register with all these well informed contributors around (and I'm also a bit lazy...), but from time to time I've been following debates and gathering knowledge.
I've been collecting guitars and basses for more than 25 years, but I bought my first Ibanez only 8 years ago: a 2663TC, being sold as an IC210. Of course I didn't mind the error!! The poor Ibanez must have felt quite lonely among 30+ Guilds, Epi's (Gibson made), Gibsons, Fenders, a few Gretsch'es and others. While making a bit of restoring 15 months ago on the 2663TC – replacing the pick-up surround with something that doesn't emit corroding fumes to the pick-up – I really learned to appreciate the exquisite workmanship and sound of Ibanez instruments, so now the triple-coil Iceman has got (good) company, consisting of a 1975 2609B Black Eagle Bass, a no serial number 2663SL (alas with the chrome tailpiece cover missing), a 1979 tobaccoburst 2680 Weir and my most recent acquisition (received on friday) a 1976 2405 Custom Agent. As you can see, my main interest in Ibanez'es lies within the 'vintage period' 1974 – 1980, so it was sheer luck that I discovered the 2661 (in fact I didn't, a friend of mine brought my attention to it), thinking that a guitar with vines had to be one within my field of interest. After seeing the pics on ICW I found it more a 'Replica' than a 'Vintage' and as such it should belong to Harry's collection. I was a bit flabbergasted by jimih's reaction to Harry's plea after all the info supplied by Harry, but I guess everybody has the right to have his own opinions.....
The rest of the story you'd know from the thread. I have made an aggrement with Harry that the 2661 is to be delivered after July 8th – I'd very much like do just one gig with this beauty.
I didn't quite expect my entry to the board to be quite as 'turbulent' as this, but I hope to be able to contribute on a small scale in the future, mainly on Vintage and Custom electrics topics.

Regards
Peter

And if you really want to know I have just had a period of depression, and when I get this Im not able to do anything than the most necessesary things in life. Not even buying guitars for you,and not even thinking about writing to people on the internet. If I had known that it meant that much to you, that you would start a campaign against me , I would have written
Sorry again for ruining your life. Hope you enjoy the guitar

Thanks dude !
Music has been my only life source since I was 15. And love guitars more than most people, that collects them for investment purposes. I have litterally cried, when playing a sweet guitar.I have just ducked out of like 4 months og really hard times. Its getting better as the years go though. Cause I been to therapy for years.
I have not been with a woman for 8 years..it has been that bad :-(
But Im really progressing these days, so dont feel that sorry for me :-)
I have actually been dating a few, and am getting ready for more action than my guitars can provide.
Thanks for the cheering. I hope you meet the right people that can help you figure out where your depression comes from ,and how it can be helped.
Mine comes from being a victim of incest --some tough sh.. to go through

sunshine too all you...even Harry :-)

Jimi

"So much for helping people" you write in your first post from June 16.
How exactly did you help me to get my hands on that guitar?
Kinda strange: You start this topic with a quest for information about the ibanez Les Paul that was offered to you (and as I assumed: you were planning to buy) and I really gave you good answers to your questions. I even warned you for the fact that the guitar probably would not be answering to your standards and doing so: saving you a trip to the seller..
Then you canceled the meeting with the seller (I heard that you did not even take the effort to call him, but that he called you to ask wether the meeting still would take place or not), you were partying till 5 in the morning and didn't bother to take any step to help me lay my hands on the guitar: "I COULD contact him, but what's in it for me?". I asked you where to click in the advertisement to get in contact with the seller (because I don't speak Danish and I didn't understand anything of the advertisement) and you didn't react at all. So what do you mean by "so much for helping people"??? Who helped who??
And now, after some time, you pop up again and have the additude of the beaten dog....
Listen Jim, I've had a severe depression too when I was in my early 40's so don't tell me how that can effect your character and behaviour towards other people. So maybe it IS understandable why you reacted/did not react the way a "healthy" person normally does, but hey: how should I have known since you never mentioned that before?
Listen: I sure hope you get your problems and your traumatic experience solved or at least that you will be able to live with that.
But I sure hope that you will be able to understand MY reaction when you read back this topic from the very first start.
Wish you all the best and as for me: no hard feelings!

Yes I cancelled the meeting, and I DID call him. Dont know why he says otherwise. But honestly I dont care. And yes you asked me how you could get in contact with him, but that was after I dropped out of this forum, and most of the world as such(except my work, wich a luckily enough still can manage trough these periods)
I want to say sorry for the comment "whats in it for me" that could be interpreted as arrogant, but I was so worn out that couldnt even drive my car for 5 kilometers. I should just have written that.
And yes I feel like a beaten dog and has felt like that for most of my life.So I dont act it. I has been . Now I feel like a human. And my new Ibanez Artist Custom helps :-)
Just bought a handmade acoutic from germany (a Hopf) form 1977. What a buy !!!!!
Hope I can find another fine guitar you can buy here in Denmark. Just dont know if Im able to pick up for you. But will do my best

Have fun playing
