A friend of mine sold this one:

He sold the same Aria as I have for 2/3:

It's like a SUPER V.

I'm going to drink my coffee now, before it gets cold. You can try reading some Dutch now.

On the Argus list the 2355 sunburst and the 2461 Johnny Smith differ only 120 euros.
BTW
Jazzerman told me that he sold the Aria but traded the 2461 Johnny Smith with some extra money for a Gibson ES-175. He was looking for a particular bebop sound. Says he found it now. And he has a good pair of ears!

Selling the 2461 Johnny Smith for 1850 euros ($2372.=) took too long and he wanted that really good sounding Gibson though it was overprized. The dealer gave 1600 euros for it and sells it now for 3500 euros. Jazzerman says about 2000 euros is the real value of the Johnny Smith.
If you want a better sound in your 2355, he advices to build in a pair of (used) classic 57 (Plus) and keep the SUPER 70s in the case. He says, that if you want a trade you'd need to add some extra money (about 1000 dollars). HIS WARNING: The sound will be disappointing!

HIS ADVICE: DON'T DO IT!

RusselW made the following list 2nd november 2003 4:05 am, which illustrates the relative rarity and the higher price of the 2461:
rarity: 3 guitars against 14
Avg price: 1252 against 922
These were ebay prices until 2-11-2003

Then one year later 18-12-2004 7:07 am:
rarity: 4 guitars against 21
Avg price: 1362 against 958
So it took a year for one next 2461 guitar to appear and the price was $1695.=

The 2461 is very interesting as a collectors item (limited edition), it is more suitable for cool jazz than for hot jazz. The amplified sound of built-in normal humbuckers like in the ES-175 type (as the 2355) is better and more versatile, especially when you're playing bebop with others in a jazz combo or big band.

If you acquire a 2461 for a relatively small price, it's nice to have it for your collection, but I wouldn't give up the 2355 for it.

Well a lot of pro players really like the old 70s Ibanez Johnny Smith copies. Two really great players immediately come to mind: Russell Malone (who backs Diana Krall a lot) and George Benson. GB used an Ibanez Johnny Smith A LOT before Ibanez finally got him his first GB10s. He's STILL using it a lot in jazz situations where he needs to play loud. There is something great about a floating pickup tone for some songs - and yet too there's time you want those big humbuckers imbedded in the top.

Here's a tremendous clip of George Benson and Carlos Santana playing BREEZIN' live. Notice GBs choice of gutiar in the clip (yeah, a 70s Ibanez Johnny Smith copy).
