I found a bolt-on Ibanez LP copy in a store yesterday - beat to hell. chips, paint missing, pots scratchy, low flat frets, tarnished gold hardware, etc. Well played as one might say. Anyways, it's a transparent red color, with creme binding and gold hardware. Looks stunning (from a gooooood distance). It has no serial number (pre-76?) but I didn't think it had the Gibson styled headstock (going back tomorrow for a second look/purchase). It also had a strange tailpiece which was best described as a vine-like molded metal. Kinda squared off, but very decorative. Does anyone know what year this guitar might be, and more interestingly - the tailpiece history? They're asking $250 for it, so I might just buy it... played nicely, but was beat to hell. Thanks!

Oh I can do better with the description than that! It has "Standard" written on the trussrod cover, trap. inlays, bound neck/body, no headstock inlay, old style logo (script?), lawsuit upper bout (just like a Gibson), flying fingers covered humbuckers (?), gold plastic knobs, "star" tuners, no sustain block under bridge. Thanks again! Steve

I'm about 2 months late on this one, but Steve, if your still out there, take a read. Some of the items on this one sound similar to my 77 Les Paul Cherry Wine Red model. I've got the same tailpiece on mine (yes, original, but rarer than the standard tailpiece), same tuners it sounds like, same headstock, mine is a standard model too, no sustain block, flying fingers pickups (super 80's on mine, very possibly the same for this one in question). Did you buy it? Hope so, it should sound great even if it doesn't look it!
Aaron
