Ebay Item #150121461984

I've been looking for a few days for a sunburst Jazz bass to replace a black fretless one I just sold. I'm a big Ibanez fan, but figured with a budget of just $400 (what I got for the bass I sold) I would be limited to either Mexican Fenders or off brands. Imagine my surprise when I got home tonight to see this baby newly listed. Yes, it has a loose fret, and yes, I'll probably have to replace the neck pickup, but dang. It's beautiful, vintage AND Ibanez.

Cool! That'll leave you $111.00 to get her 'right'.

LOL. I know. Further investigation reveals it's missing the chrome pickup covers, the truss rod cover and the thumb rest has been moved. But I had to act fast and since I plan to play it, not just display it, I'm very happy. Now if it just gets here in one piece. ;-)

An update on this 2365B. Here's its original condition, as received from the eBay seller:

And here it is "restored":

What I did to it: First, I'm no luthier, just a hobbyist, and my ultimate goal is to play this baby every night, so I wanted the body to look good. As it was, it was really trashed around the edges. So I sanded the edges down, roughed up the entire surface, and then painted the edges black, and filled and touched up the two holes left when I moved the finger rest back to where it belonged. I then gave the whole body a good coating of shelac. Next, I bought some vintage pickup covers on eBay (the seller said they were Teisco, but they looked identical to what was on the 2365B in the catalog) and then I cut down a new trussrod cover to fit the headstock. I also bought some new Jazz Bass volume and tone knobs for it. Finally, one of the pickups was not working, and my attempts at rewiring had failed, so I brought it to Guitarville in Seattle and had their repair guy rewire the whole thing. One of the pickups ended up being dead, but I had a spare Squire Jazz (also from eBay) that he put into the bridge position. The bass sounds great and I can't wait to use it live!
