Hello
What type of pickup was used in 1972 ibanez les paul guitars.?
i was offered a set of pickups for 50 dollars.
i can maby use them for some projects.
The seller is the original owner and said they were to jazzy in sound so he changed them in the seventies ond now wants to sel them.i did not ask him of model. first i ned some more info from YOU

i found a black les poul body incl al hardware in my seller. it looks exaktly as an ibanez 1971 black beaty. an old friend gave mee this guitar and asked if i colud use it ? it was wery nice but unfortunely with a wrong neck put on.
the pu is NOT stamped but mounted with 3 screws

They may be singles in a humbucker case.That's what's in a pre serial 2350 I have and a few others I've had.
That might be the reason for the "jazzy" tone he mentioned. |

Just curious: You have an IBANEZ 2350 with a single coil in an humbucker casing??? Thatīs the first time I hear of an Ibanez with such a pickup. I was familiar with the fact that other Japanese copies from the seventies had this (I once owned a Morris SG who had two of these fake-humbuckers), but as far as I know Ibanez guitars always had "real" humbuckers (not speaking of quality here).
This would be a new discovery for me.

Are you kidding Harry? 2350 were equipped with Maxon's before they got super70's. The Maxon pups are single coils in a humbucker casing.

I just need to dig out the box they're in.
Paul's got it with the Maxon info.I've seen a lot of those over the years.Some marked,some not,but always the same square coil design.
I haven't looked in a long time but I'd imagine that's what's in my '69 2020 also.Only centered in the case like a P90 If I remember right |

Maybe a misunderstanding: of course I know that before the Super 70's appeared the first Ibanez Les Paul/SG models had Maxon pickups, but these were always Maxon double coils.
Maxon also made these fake-humbuckers (single coils in a humbucker casing) but as far as I know these ultra low-budget pups never appeared on an Ibanez.
I have found these fakers on several El-Cheapo Japanese guitars (my ex Morris SG and some early Hondo models) but it would be the first time I hear of an Ibanez Les Paul copy with these pickups.
I hope to get some reliable information on this, so I can add some correct info about this matter in my upcoming book.

I'll send you some pics tomorrow of my around 1973 model(s) 2350. I have only seen Maxon single coils in my 2350 models. Never seen any humbuckers carrying the Maxon logo.

I'm still looking.I did find a steel plate fake hummer but I believe what I pulled out of the 2350 were brass plate Maxon fake hummers.
On the bright side for me,I found a old Maxon humbucker and a pair of PAF reissues I forgot I had. |
