I am fixing up a early 70's 2355 and wonder if someone has info on the subject.
I have had bridge pickup out a few times and there is a wire from pickup that was connected to strings somewhere inside, but I don't know where. It's now loose in the far end.
It's a pretty long wire so I guess that natural spot would be stringholder at the very back at strapbutton, but I'm not sure.
Can you guide me where to look?

Since the original setup of the 2355 had a rosewood bridge grounding through the bridge was impossible. Only when you use a tune-o-matic bridge, it is possible, when you know what you're doing.
The only possibility for grounding with both bridge types will indeed be the tailpiece strap button. I must say, I never looked at it. It was mint when I bought it.
I'll take a peep and tell you what's there in my 1976 2355m.

Nip, I looked inside my 2355m with a pen light and a dentist mirror. The wire goes straight down to the tailpiece/ string holder. (This is the only logical connection with the strings, since my bridge is all wood. (Ebony BTW, not rosewood, but the fretboard is rosewood).

Thanks a million. Very kind of you to go through so much trouble. Then I know where to focus.
I will get a dentist mirror as well and see if strapbutton screw goes right through. It would be nice, then I could just unscrew it, drag the wire through and solder on tip or something. |

I fixed the ground wiring now.
It was a small drilled whole in the end block beside any of the other screws where the wire went. When removing strap button wire was seen.
So it was easy to fix.
And finding out that the screw at middle of end block did not have that much wood and was almost loose, fixing it made guitar even more acoustic resonant. |

I also discovered that guitar now stays perfectly in tune after these screws has some wood to work in. |
