Can't see a neck plate, so I'd guess it's a set-neck.

Damn phone cameras!

Hi all!

Warning!!!!
To me this is NOT an Ibanez. I lightened and enlarged the (bad) picture and it appears to me that the logo does not make sense. It looks like one of these old metal logos that were nailed on the surface of the headstock in the late 60´s. Besides: should the position of the logo not be more slanted than straight? All the set neck Les Pauls (except the 2386) had the logos in a slanted position.
Also: do you think this is a real "open book" headstock?
To me: it stinks, not only because of the blurry pictures, but also because of the cliché-"I´m selling this for a friend....has to sell this piece he inherited from his passed-away brother because he needs the money..."
my picture
See and judge for yourself.....

Harry, I partially agree with you. I have my doubts too. I already have asked the seller for more pics but so far no reply.

Were I think you are wrong is the slanted logo part. Both my 2651 (groupshot of two 2650 and two 2651 on here somewhere....)have the logo in the usual position. The 2650's do have the slanted version however.

This seems to be a open book headstock indeed.
Maybe it is genuine and closely related to Snowjays 2651?? Remember that one? Kind of an oddball too.

I do hope I get to see some good pictures....

Whatever it is, the bridge has been changed, it has 4 of the original star tuners, 1 gotoh tuner, and 1 star tuner off a LP jnr (no screws type). Missing the white scratch plate, knob, and it's impossible to anything about the pups.
What I can tell is that it's late 1974 or 1975 vintage and looks a bit rough.

Hi all

Got a mail from the seller. He says that the guitar does not have a serial number anywhere.
He claims it was built before the serial numbers were introduced in 1975.
He promised me to send pictures from both the front and the back of the headstock.
Keep you informed!

By the way. LesPaul (you´re more the LP expert here): there are no other set neck Ibanez Les Paul copies without serial numbers other than the 2386 and 2386Left, are there?
If this is right, than the offered guitar can not be an Ibanez, or am I missing something here (and did I miss something over the past 6 years....)

Fill me in, please.

DISCLAIMER "As far as I know:"

There's always the trusty 2337DX Harry.

I do not own it but I held a no-serial 2650 with all the correct appointments for being a very early one. I believe that one to be genuine.

Another one is Snowjays' 2651. If I am correct that one is a no-serial.

So I'd say "officially" there are no pre serial setnecks Les Paul copies other than 2337dx, 2386 and 2386L. But why shouldn't they be out there? After all it is Ibanez we are talking about here, right?

Aaaah, yeah.....holes in my memory, folks....that´s what happens when you get older, I guess .
Of course I know the 2337DX (I own one myself!) and now that you mention it Dave, how could I forget about your (one-of-a-kind, until now?) set neck DeLuxe ´59er.
Hmmm....when will it ever occur that we know all the models and all the possible variations? Like you said, Les Paul: it´s Ibanez we´re talking about and I think we keep on making new discoveries, even over the next 20 years....

Guess we´ll have to wait for the headstock pictures to draw further conclusions on this particular guitar.

Now you're mentioning the De Luxe '59er, did Ibanez ever applied mini-humbuckers? Now THAT would be something!

Back on the eBay 2351: I received pictures from the seller and I am convinced it is an Ibanez, not a fake. A little beat but a nice gottahave anyway.

Hmmm....shall I hunt this one or is anyone here vere eager to get it?
Yesterday there was 1 bid, now there are two....am I right to suppose that the second bidder is you, Paul (now that the "evidence" for authenticy has been given)?
If you´re chasing or anybody else from this famuly I won´t interfere.

Kind greetz,

Hi Harry,

I bought another setneck LP (black 2650) this week. I am watching the auction but haven't bid yet...
If you want to, go for it. Maybe we can discuss our maximum bid off line. Mail me if interested.

Paul

I received your mail and therefor I know you´re already hunting another one in Holland.
I think I´ll try to get this LP on German Ebay.
What would be a fair price? Somewhere in the range of 500, 600 Euro?

Kind greetz,
Harry

That would be fair but I am not sure you'll get it at that price. I think it is fair because of the condition of the guitar but that does not show up in the auction photos so other viewers might bid higher. Afer all it is a rare and popular beast.
If I'd really want it I'd bid real high and just hope nobody else does the same.....

Let's hope the poor description and pics turn off a lot of potential buyers.

Good luck!

Looks like the Standard set neck I bought on ebay a few months ago but mine is in much better condition and I got it shipped to me, with a brand new coffin case for under $550 US Also mine is another 77 model (as most of mine tend to be) and the logo is script and not slanted... however on my 2650 set neck black beauty the logo is slanted at the aforementioned angle. Slanted logo custom is a B77, the straight logo Standard is a G77... how odd... and even semi-interesting, lol.

You people and tracking down the set neck models... I'm impressed! I do quite a bit of hunting and have only turned up my two when they were for sale aside from the stray German ebay ones that have made it to our attention here. Both of mine came from US guitar shops selling online. Nice find, wish it was a little cleaner with less damage. I've got the two black set neck LP's so now I've got an eye out for some other colors, lol. I still love the CW LP Standard I saw in I believe it was Paul's pics. I'd take the necessary steps to aquire one in that color or perhaps a custom agent in that color (have only seen one, sigh) if I ever run across either for sale.

I'm usually up for bidding on set neck LP's... but I just got one the same color at a good price so I'm not in the market for this one, hope someone here gets it though!

I know Paul! I'll get some taken... took a few a day or two ago of the CW LP and they turned out nice... love my new old digital SLR cam, well worth the hundred bucks I ebayed it for! Only thing is, for best lighting at that time of day I ran the CW out by the garage for a few pics... its been pretty dern cold the last few days, even in NC and didn't wanna set them outside long for pictures in the cold. Both the set necks being black, I wanted to make sure they showed up good and have reasonable detail. I was trying to get pictures of the whole collection so I can post them on my site and add a Ibanez section for my gear (which is back up to 10 now and only one non-Ibanez, I had whittled from 13 back down to 9... then the bug hit again, plus I've been playing much more since I moved to my new place). It is just aweful, I've got the itch for another couple models, now, lol. I need to get the LP Jr. fixed more than anything right now though, any input on neck resets in NC area? Or input on where to send it? I'd be willing to ship to someone to have the work done by someone that would do it right.
