As if I was not "a beginning player". Our VAT 22% and customs duty 3.7% make guitars from a non EU country expensive. One must really want/need one or have a lot of money to spend. Total price = price + shipping + 22% * (3.7% * (price + shipping)). To make it more readable let PS = price + shipping Total price = PS + 22% * (PS + 3.7% * PS) That is appr. 26 percent rice to what you pay for the guitar and shipping. Juha Harry Username: Harry Registered: 3-2001 Posted on Monday, February 26, 2007 - 6:54 am:    I often use this trick: I ask the seller if he wants to ensure the package+contence for far less than I bought it for. EG: If I buy a guitar for let's say 600 dollar I ask the seller to ensure it for 150 or 200, because the package contains "a 35 year old garage sale/ flee market guitar". The customs often use that amount to determine VAT. Risk: if the package gets lost or damaged, you'll have to deal with only 200 dollar ensurence money... Another nice trick (only good for if the guitar has a bolt-on neck): have the seller take body and neck apart, so that the guitar can be packed in a far smaller box. Contence: "various old guitar parts". Value "100 dollar".... Most of the time it works....because mostly they don't open the boxes to check what's in it and if they do they sure don't have a clue about what it is and if the stated value is appropriate. Harry
