Id very much like to purchase one pre 77.this will be a working axe,it dosen't have to be pristine, but have all the original components.

No time wasters please.

Interesting....gotta keep an eye on this auction to see how "the market" values such a hybrid.

She's beautiful! But the price is way too high for my tastes. I seem to remember something like this going for $750.00 not too long ago.

Why do you think it's a fake?

Lespaul,

It looks like maybe a refin with new bridge and tail piece, but the only thing out of sorts are the tuners.

Okay, here we go!

Please look at the auction for detail pics.

First of all, this would be an 2386, which came in CS with the zebra pups, not in black/chrome pups.
Then there is the control layout and control cavity size. Wrong. These older models (lawsuit headstock) have the smaller control cavity with the cover mounted by six screws. The controls should be much closer together in this model but even for a later one the cavity is too big and the controls are too wide apart.
The pups are too close together and the body edges on the back are too round, it should have slightly sharper edges.
These are the hard to change issues, but then there is lots more which could be exchanged but then there is nothing original to this guitar.
The headstock: I have never seen set neck model without inlay in it in one way or the other. The Ibanez logo font is too wide and too white. Decall! The truss rod cover is wrong. The tuners I believe are actually correct.
All the hardware on the body is wrong.
To top it all I have seen more of these guitars from this seller in the same condition with the same issues. I have never seen any of them anywere else.

Paul, you're absolutely right! These are fakes!
Apart from what you already said I might add one of the major features which prove these are no real Ibanez Les Pauls:
These two have the "open book" headstock shape.
Before the headstock-change in 1976 there were NO Ibanez set neck Les Paul copy models other than the model 2386 and the model 2337DX (Les Paul Special) and the model 2372DX (Les Paul Professional). (We don't count the two Custom Agents 2675 and 2405, the Scruggs 2771 and the Black 2674 as being Les Paul copies).
All the other "open book"-Les Paul copies were were bolt-on.
All the other set-neck Les Paul models first appeared in the 1976 catalogue and had the new "Guild-style" headstock.

Kind greetz,
Harry

Just curious why someone is going thru all the trouble to make counterfeit Ibanez setneck LPs? Sure they are valuable, but why not make them fake Gibbys and get twice as much?

I really don't know John but I can imagine that Gibbons are checked more thoroughly ( I know I do)because they are more expensive and (I think that) Gibbons are more falsified anyway.
My guess is that Ibanez buyers are thought to be fooled easier.

The square polepiece pickups on the lower copy look like those found in some Electra models. Why someone would transform an Electra into an Ibanez to get the extra hundred or so bucks is a good question.

Tim,

I have seen those pups on several types of Matsumoku guitars. Not just Electra.

Here's my 2386, 1977. The tuners are changed to Schaller Tulip heads and the Pups are Semour Duncans with gold covers I added.
