Way back when in Jeff's black hole, someone said "I am aware of Ibanez guitars marketed in England under the Antoria brand name."

Anyone shed some light on the instrument here? It's essentially a Jazz/Strat doubleneck. Scary, huh?

Hi FFM

Scary and big too. I remember we sold one of these in the shop I worked in back in 77'/78'. The guitar is essentially the same as the Ibanez model except for the logo on the headstocks.

If my memory serves me correctly, either FCN or JT Coppock distributed Antoria guitars during the 70’s. Ibanez were handled by CSL and then Summerfield’s.

I’ve owned a few Antoria guitars over the years both electrics and acoustics. I’m 99% certain they were made by the same craftsmen and came out of the same factory as the Ibanez range of guitars.

Check out the thread “FAKE IBANEZ FOR SALE” in the miscellaneous discussion section. I’ve offered up some thoughts and theories on the Antoria range here.

Hi there FFM,

I concur! That case is a dead ringer for the original hard shell cases issued by Ibanez in the mid '70's. The strat neck certainly has the same appointments as other Ibanez strat necks I have seen.

Regards,

Mark

Hi Fleetwood!
Yes! Antoria was the United Kingdom-name for Ibanez guitars. When you check out GB Ebay, you'll hardly find Ibanez guitars, but always Antoria instruments. This particular model is ultra-ultra rare; until now Hasy and I know this one only from a 1976 German catalogue illustration-picture: it was not listed in the catalogue itself with a modelnumber or any data at all. Is this guitar for sale? Could you please send me some bigger pics than these ones (for my files) to G.Kruisselbrink1@chello.nl ?
Thanks!

Spot on Harry. The Ibanez version of this twin neck appears in my 76' catalogue too. Again, just a picture with no number. I'm pretty sure the Antoria version appeared up to a couple of years later. Like I said, same guitar different distributor. Does anyone know if this had anything to do with the Lawsuit? Ibanez must have had a lot of copies left over after the Lawsuit. Maybe this explains why they were rebadged and sold through a different distributor over here. Were they rebadged for other countries too around this time?

Any ideas?

By the way Harry. I couldn't reach Hasy about those Super 70's you guys had for sale. Are they gone?

Ok. Stupid question. What's it worth?

(The wife's getting twitchy about insuring it.)

Fleetwood!
Right! The clicking on the pictures helped! This confirms again the fact that I'm about the biggest computer-barbarian around...shame, shame :-{
Well, what's it worth? I think in this case the value is more likely fixed by collectors than by players: it must be an almost unplayable and heavy instrument to jump around with on stage. Boy oh boy.....I would gladly give you $700 for this one. If ever this model might turn up on Ebay that bears the Ibanez logo on the headstock I would bid upto 900, maybe 1000. Depends on how many competitors. If there seem to be many collectors interested, I would maybe go higher. See, I'm a collector and this is one of the rarest models ever made, so......
But am I correct: is this doubleneck yours? (Considering the ensurance-thing)
Greetz,
Harry

It's reasonably playable, actually - my wife learned to play bass on it (I kid you not!), and the 6-string neck is not at all unpleasant. And yes, it's mine. I picked it up in 1990 or so in a second-hand shop in Cambridge, England for about UKP100.

As to selling it: I dunno. Part of me would like to hang on to it, the other part sees a white Squier JV serial Strat in my future. *grin*

I also have a 6/12 doubleneck, which appears to be an Arbiter: I have no idea who's rebadged model THAT is, and that definitely isn't for sale, because I need it for the live arrangement of 'Oh Daddy'.

100 quid! Bargain mate. Taking scarcity into account here, it's probably the same one we sold in 78' (the shop I worked in was in Essex). It hasn't got a "Berry Piano's" sticker on it anywhere has it? Or maybe a stain about the size of 2 postage stamps on the back of one of the headstocks where a sticker may have been? That's where we stuck the stock item No. and date ID.

I'll check when I get it back - it's in temp storage at a friend's while we move.

After consultation with my co-owner (long story, but the other guitarist in the band and I bought it jointly and neither of us can remember if I ever paid him off), it's for sale.

More details and photos of any particular area available on request, but not for another week and a half (18th May), when I get it back. I'll entertain offers of UKP500 or more plus shipping to your part of the world. Remember, it's an Antoria, not an Ibanez, and the pictures are at http://www.altrion.org/doublenecks.html.

Offers by email to doubleneck@altrion.org - since you guys have been very helpful, this is only going to be advertised on this site. Highest offer on May 25th gets it AT THEIR OFFER. Please also tell me your ICW username when you mail.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhkay. We apologise for the major interruption to this little thread. *wry smile* Life's been fraught.

One house move, one long summer vacation, one over enthusiastic purge of my inbox and one complete rearrange of the studio later, this doubleneck *is* still for sale - need to raise funds for the wife's keyboard rig. If anyone is still interested (Harry?) it's going for UKP450 + postage: first come, first served.

Forgot to add: it has a few dings on the body, near the strapbutton, and its serial is B762009.

Hi all!
Mike, thanks! Went to the bank yesterday; payment should arrive in about a week.
Yeah, even though that double neck has no Ibanez logo but the Antoria name on it, I consider it a highly regarded piece in my collection. After all: Antoria IS Ibanez. Besides: we always wondered what that great doubleneck in the 1976 German Catalogue was.... it's nowhere pictured with a model number and it is in no price list. Glad to really have found one; they were made after all.
Counting this one as "in the collection" my current pride and joy consists of 59 pieces. I recently bought a stunning and rare 2401 (model Les Paul Signature) in great original condition. Another amazing piece which I'm very proud of.
Musash, what more does a man nead besides bread, water and guitars (and a lovin' girlfriend, of course....)?
Meanwhile my entire house seems to become an Ibanez museum itself....;-)
Please note: in a short while our Ibanez vintage Page will be updated with many more scans and with 10 new beauties in "my collection". Hasy is working his socks off scanning many new things. He just had a total computer collaps after having done already a whole lot of scanning. Everything was lost and so he had to put in many things right back from the start. Also in a short while the page will be off-line for a couple of weeks (month?) to become a whole new face-lift. We'll let you know.
Greetz,
Harry

Harry, looking forward to the new site! But why will it be offline so long? Can't do the siwtch to the new site in 1 day?

Greetings, Musash

Musash, you're talking to a computer-Neanderthaler here. I'm glad Hasy does all the work on the site from the tecnical side of the story. Not the slightest idea how such a job is done and how long it takes.
You know, the computer is like a car to me: I know how to drive and that once in a while gas is needed. But I could not even change the spark plugs...... ;-) Besides, I'm awfully lazy too....
We will keep you all informed!
Greetz,
Harry

Hi all and Hi Sixvsix!

Thanks for the tip!
I placed a bid of 300 pound and wondered that the reserve was met already.
This one is RARE and I'd love to get it in my collection (we all know that Antoria IS in fact the UK name for Ibanez). Would make a great couple together with my Antoria 4/6 Jazz/Strato double neck!
Kind greetz,
Harry

Hi all!

Just got the deal!
It made me wonder why I got this so (relatively) cheap.....320 pound (that's around 620 US dollars).
Anyway...I can't wait to receive it. In advantage some pictures that went along with the sale.
If I have the beauty, I'll put on more pictures!
