i have a silver series strat that im replacing pickups in. Will a set of fender strat pickups work in it? Also, how do you refinish the body if it has chips in it?

Did somebody say "strat pickups"???

I've spent so many hours in the last week researching strat replacement PUs that my head hurts :-)

Yes, there should be no problem with compatibility. Fender PUs, or any of the other aftermarket replacements should work.

shallow chips, scratches and dings can be sanded and buffed out pretty easily. Fixing chips that are deeper is hard - attempted repairs usually come out looking worse than they did before, unless you really know what you're doing, and have the right stuff. Either way, do your research first.

You can find some nice heated debates the threads here about whether it's kosher to repair/repaint the finish of "collectable" guitars.

I recently restored the electronics on an Ibanez strat clone and used Fender vintage 70's re-issue staggered pole pups and they worked fine.

BTW, I do have two "excel" pups (bridge and middle) that were original to the Ibanez strats if anyone is interested in them...

Should i really worry about keeping this guitar original? i dont think its really a "collectable."

There are different takes on that, but I think we at least owe it to future collectors to give it the benefit of the doubt. At the very least, save all the parts, if they're stock.
