I have played 'em. To me, they're like a brand new version of an AR100 with Super58's. From the players perspective, I don't see how you could go wrong.

Jazz:

No tri-sounds on the new AR300. They went out of style in the around '86-'87. The AS200 is the only newer guitar I can think of that has any tri-sound pickups.

The 'Reissue' AR300's from 1994/5 timeframe had tri-sounds. The TRC actually said something like 'Artist Reissue'. I used to own one. Not the newer ones.

Well, i got one ar100 ´80 and one ar300 ´04!

I wonder if the ar300 is going to sound like the ar100 in about 25 years, because that is the big difference between the twoo!

The quality, playability and looks is as good on the ar300 but the sound!! I think the pups and the wood on an electric needs some time to mature!

But, hey, the ar300 is a real good guitar and it could´nt bee wrong.

I had a 2004 AR300 and I have two 1983 AR300s. I bought the newer one without very high expectations. While it was certainly descent quality guitar...it just didn't feel like quality the way the Japanese vintage guitars feel. And the sound was definetly different...not bad but not like the old ones. Perhaps this has to due with the differences in woods and pickups as Holmis stated.
