Does a transitional model exist? Somebody told me he has one from 1980. Ebony fretboard, rosewood binding on fretboard and rosewood veneer on headstock but not wooden knobs and TRC. "LIMITED EDITION" on fretboard. Could it be a hybrid, AR3000's neck and AR500's body?

The first generation AR500 (1979 and part of 1980) had Super 80's (flying fingers), a smooth neck joint, black headstock and a thin body. Then they moved to the 'fatty' version with Super 58's.

Look at page 4:

Juha,

if it has a "Limited Edition"-Inlay it surely is an AR3000 although the body should have the dark binding as well. Perhaps the owner forgot to mention that detail... Anyway, the usage of a standard "Artist"-TRC and Sure Grip plastic knobs seem to be common on the only 6(!) AR3000 that were made in 1980. The later models usually had brass knobs, the wooden ones I've seen only in the '81 catalog, so far.

Now I have seen pics and it looks very much like '81 AR500AV except the serial # L80nnnn, the striped binding on neck and body and "LIMITED EDITION" inlay, or it looks like '81 AR3000 except the knobs etc. It has been refretted and bridge has been replaced (Gibraltar II, owner has the original). Something wrong with EQ's bass knob after a knock. Has OHSC.

Then there is the difficult question: Value of this possibly rare bird?

Hmm, an AR3000 with a L80 serial number and a Gibraltar II bridge? That sounds familiar. I think we've talked about that guitar some time ago. Is the guitar located in Finland and is the owner called Wilo by chance?

If so, here are some pics of the guitar in question, definitely a AR3000.

If the guitar you're referring to is another one, then post some pics here, but the "Limited Edition"-Inlay is a dead giveaway.

About the value: The last AR3000 I saw on Ebay went for approx. $2500. That one was all original and was sold incl. the original Flightcase. Difficult to estimate, probably $1500-2000...

Now I know why the pictures were somehow familiar. Yes, that is the one. I had seen the pics here on ICW (or the link and ...). Wilo is selling it as AR500, says something about AR3000's features, and obviously doesn't know it is AR3000 (or is not sure).
And I searched and searched and did not find similar guitar in any catalog.
I wonder has Fox been here and informed Wilo about this thread.

Hi there Juha! I have informed Wilo 'bout a year ago 'bout his guitar..and he had described his guitar correctly some time ago in Muusikoiden.net classifieds.. BTW, there is an AS-Artist there right now.. (off topic remark)

Wilo's guitar is a genuine AR 3000 and there is more, it's just one number away from mine.. So there are two 3000's in Finland..
I must inform him, he's only 54 km from my place...
regards fox (Juha is my second name.. :-))

Is it my old eyes or has that AS200 (AE-200 on the ad ) some non original parts. Perhaps this should go to hollowbodies.

Plenty of older Ibanezes for sale in Finland. Hm, plenty, not very many but more than usually at the same time. AR3000, AS200, two FG100s, V300, '57 acoustic ...
I can't afford all of them. So, what to do ...
