I just picked up a Korean made PS10 2 in really nice condition with the original hardshell case. The guitar is all original and clean with no fret wear. The switch tip is missing.

Any ideas of the current value? The guitar plays and sounds great. The shape & flash may be too wild for me.

Rick,

I would guess around 800-900 USD. There have been a few folks on eBay trying to sell them for 1000-1500 and to my knowledge, none ever go that high. However, the PS-10(-2) carries with it that KISS mojo so there are both guitar collectors and KISS fans often going head to head when these puppies show up in auction. So I imagine its only a matter of time until they reach that price. Considering a Japanese PS10 in comperable condition would probably get around 1750-2000, the 1000 dollar price for a 10-2 may not be out of line.

I have had all versions of the PS10 in my stable including an original PS-10, a PS10-2 and a PS10LTD. I sold the 10-2 a while back but still have the original and the LTD. I can tell you first hand that the PS10-2 is not all that bad if you have no Korean-made bias. But to be fair, compared to the LTD that came out in the same time period as the 10-2, they're not in the same ballpark. The LTD is head and shoulders a better guitar than the 10-2, and it's comperable in build quality and sound to the originals.

800-900?? No! Not for a PS-10 II. It was $999.99 NEW in 1995. So $500-$667. MAX + something extra for the case (80-90 bucks) is reasonable.
You know I have no Korean-made bias.

Jeff & Ginger,

Thanks for the insight. I am really only looking to get $600-700 for it.

I'm still torn if I should keep it because it really does rock and looks cool. I'm just not sure how much I'll actually play it and when I do it's going to seem out of place for my style of playing and the guys I play with.

I'll probably ebay it soon unless anyone here wants it.

Thanks ... Rick

I think you'll do better than 600-700...

Hmmm... 1996 made by Cort $1099,95 list price, case $169,95 back in 1996.
So $1270.- new OHSC included.
Value (high estimate on 2/3): $846.67
I think 74.8% is very high for a 11 year old Korean Ibanez.
c***e .... could be a shill bidder?

Ginger, it ended at 1275... so you had very moderate price expectations.. That mysterious c***e was not involved in the final "battle", mr. Musician (one of ICW-fellows??) was the winner..I guess that he (c***e) was not a shill bidder but some newbie in fleaBay..

I don't understand this.
If you would try the same with a 1996 Artstar AF120 (same factory, same year, same list price) you'd be happy if you got $600.-
What's so special about this plank? It's NOT an LTD.

Ginger,

You discount the KISS factor and the fact they're not being made any more. I can't explain it either, but for some reason, the prices are rising; even on the Korean models. I actually paid less for my MINT LTD than what this 10-2 went for.

Prices on Icemen are going crazy now, especially the PS10 models and the original '70's models. The KISS factor is a huge driver of prices and there are three distinct groups of people chasing these guitars: players, collectors, and KISS fans!

Beyond the Kiss factor is a new group of players/fans who are into System of a Down and Cradle of Filth. Both bands are known for their use of Icemen and they both have quite rabid fans that are seeking out Icemen.

Prices on the older Korean IC500 and PS10-2 are over-inflated because they both feature the abalone binding, arched top and other ornamentations that are not available on current production models.

If Ibanez were to make a new model that featured the higher spec of an IC500/PS10 then you would see more rational pricing in the used market.

Cheers,

Mark

Mark,

You've nailed it. The KISS factor is huge. I sold my 10-2 to a KISS fan that didn't even play guitar!

I'm a huge Iceman fan and keep my eyes open all the time for the 70s models. You can't help to notice how the prices have risen. I think Rick will do well.

The KISS factor doesn't play any role in my head. I like the Iceman model, but I like rational calculation too.
It's a pity that Paul Stanley gave his name to an obscure brand as Silvertone. They're kid's guitars IMO. You don't wanna be found with one of those, when they dig up this civilisation...

Yes Ginger,

Paul Stanley is an endorsement junkie. First it was the terrible Gibson Marauder that he only used to smash on stage!

Then Ibanez PS-10, then Hamer, then BC Rich for most of the '80's, then Gibson Les Pauls & Explorers, then back to Ibanez, then Washburn, and then Silvertone!!

Hey, I found out there is a recent Iceman too!
It's the ICX-220-DX, or without the dashes ICX220DX.
It's brand new, made of basswood (Linde) probably made in China and CHEAP!

All it lacks are the initials PS, but I wouldn't bother about that. Did anyone of us try them already?

Funny stuff.

I've been getting emails telling me I'm selling the guitar too cheap yet no one has pulled the trigger and bought it.

That is NOT particularly logical.
It looks like some owners of these models want to drive up the prices, because they can use your deal as a reference when they start selling. That $1275.- is probably just to set a trend. But paying more than 100% of the 1995 list price is absolute nonsense IMO.
And if they really think it's cheap, they should use the BIN. Then you'll be both happy.

Ginger, (and others)

There are also current "Flying V" V-Blade VTB700, and "X" Xiphos XPT700. They and Iceman are on the price list you posted to an other thread, X-series. At ibanez.com there is also IC400, more traditional Iceman
http://www.ibanez.com/eg/series.aspx?s=classics
but not VTB700
http://www.ibanez.com/eg/series.aspx?s=x

Different countries have different assortments.
