I ran across this one at a garage sale and picked it up for a great garage sale price. My nephew is taking lessons and loves the guitar so I wanted to get a little info on this one before I give it to him. Any help is appreciated. I was told it was an original Ibanez RG550 in Roadflare Red. Part of the numbers are worn and hard to read it looks like S904357, THE LETTER AND #3 ARE MOSTLY WORN OFF SO I CAN'T TELL FOR SURE. My pics are in this photobucket album.

S904357
S = Samick factory, Korea,
9 = 1989,
04 = April,
357 = overall production number of that month for this factory under the Ibanez label.

Detailed info for the RG550 is on this catalogue page:
http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1989/rg5.jp g

BUT,... there's a but...

it is NOT an RG550 (which has a maple fretboard with black dots). Your guitar has these typical hardrock style fretboard inlay, often called shark teeth. They are single teeth or TRIANGLES, not double like on the RG750, so that is also NOT what it is...
IMO, it's an EX350, which we find on this page:

http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1989/ex.jpg

So, it's a cheaper Korean EX model, 18 years old, in the colour PR (PEARL RED) and certainly cheaper than the RG550.

The list price of the EX350 in 1989 was 1045 Dutch guilders, while the RG550 (right handed) was 1350 Dutch guilders.
That does NOT make this guitar low end or budget, because you could buy a MIJ Fender Strat (Fuji Gen factory) for 795-895 guilders in those days.

For the second hand value, you take 50%-60% for a Korean Ibanez, so that's about $250-300.-
