Phase reversal vs parallel

Parallel wired h-bucker is quite like a singlecoil, but still humbucking, while phase reversal with 2 humbuckers is a totally different thing tonally. If 2 pickups are both on, and the other is equipped with phase reverse switching, the sound that you will get is quite "hollow", nasalish and some frequencies are cancelled. Hope you'll get the point.. btw. What sounds best or is most usefull is a matter of taste. You need many eguitars, amps and effects to achieve all possible sound variations. Humbuckers with coil split etc are versatile but can't do everything. Juha   Fox Username: Fox Registered: 2-2003 Posted on Monday, November 05, 2007 - 6:29 am:    Ekkerman, the main reason, why I have preferred Series-parallel switching is, that when a h-bucker is in "parallel mode", coils connected in parallel, you'll get quite convincing singlecoil-sound, but the pickup stays humbucker, while in split mode it will be a singlecoil. On some occasions you'll get all the possible noise also.. The disadvantage is, that you loose some power when you connect the coils in parallel mode, some players like this, some find it a little annoying. It helps a lot if the humbucker is "in the hi-power side", the output drop is not at all dramatic.
