Author Message   Ekkerman Username: Ekkerman Registered: 7-2004 Posted on Wednesday, November 07, 2007 - 10:26 am:    can anyone please tell me the nature of the material used in the pickguard of the ar300cs brass beauty? i know youlle say brass but i am not sure the guy from the store where i bought the guitar , showt me how to waterproof sandpaper a smal bit on the back of the pickguard and it became really shiney! but sinds the front was realy pitted i had to sand of a bit more and now all of the (copper) is gone and a silvery layer is shown . the silvery shiney bit,is this nickel ? nickel was often used as a basis for copperplating so they tell me ... what is the pick guard made of ,any thoughts ? its not magnetic so it isnt steel like .... was it a copper with a nickel layer and then put in a goldbath? or made copper again on the nickel (basis) or is it a copper aligntment of some sorts? thanx all for trying to answer my question in advance ,   Ekkerman Username: Ekkerman Registered: 7-2004 Posted on Wednesday, November 07, 2007 - 11:09 am:    at yet closer inspection and not under all to bright lights its got a hint of gold type color but not "in your face "gold copper colour...   Lespaul Username: Lespaul Registered: 10-2004 Posted on Wednesday, November 07, 2007 - 2:11 pm:    Hi Ekkerman, Mine are massive brass alright. Maybe you have a replacement or a restored one???? BTW: In plating procedures, copper is a base layer for nickel. So the nickel goes over the copper, not the other way around. Can you post pictures? Mine was quite dull and tarnished, mainly because the wear of protective coating, so I had it replated. The goldsmith told, that it was brass..nothing extra coats, as in nickel/chrome plating.. btw. It's non-abrasive. You take the pickguard off, apply the DUC with a wet sponge and rub gently and then rinse the DUC off with tap water. If you use Firefox, you can install all kinds of dictionaries for the spelling checker. But to avoid the c, the q and the u, you could write "clear coat". It cheap in the "Action" shops in Holland now (EUR1.99 so I bought 3). Then you must select it, press Ctrl-X, move the cursor to the desired location and press Ctrl-V. Anyway, I can appreciate the dictionaries (professional deformation). But I have four different browsers installed. P@ul   Ekkerman Username: Ekkerman Registered: 7-2004 Posted on Friday, November 09, 2007 - 2:08 am:    i am having them put gold on it so it will look like the bridge. brass is very easy replateblle with gold. the guys where i am having it done use a gold and kobalt alloy so this is very hard and will last a long,long time. this because of the silver like appearence of the pickguard wich will when finished look like the bridge along with the knobs and toggleswitch tip and gibraltar and tailpiece ornament ... she willl shine like never before!! there's a pic of my 2622 on their website ... http://www.spectrachrome.eu/
