First of all, if it is a 100% original 80's AR300, why does it have the new style bridge that's used on the Korean re-issues? Secondly, Look on the treble side at the neck joint: Looks like a sloppy, scratchy job of scraping the cherry finish from the binding in that area (not to mention the weird "wipe marks" on the binding itself). If you look closely, it does NOT look like an 80's factory Poly finish. They were like glass. This actually looks like a hand rubbed Nitro-cel finish (which isn't bad, just not correct). And lastly: Look VERY CLOSELY at the serial number. Looks hand written, and a little "wobbly" there. The numbers definately aren't stamped. May be a hand (paint marker) written SN and a "Crafted in Japan" decal. My guess is that someone took a Korean re-issue, stripped & re-finished it & put a vintage looking serial number on it. (I've thought about snagging one of those Korean ones & doing the same thing, but for MY PERSONAL use & gratification.....NOT to sell as a Japanese Vintage AR300). I think they added some nice NOS vintage pickups & hardware, but dropped the ball on the bridge. Pretty guitar, but man for 1500 Beans, I'd be hesitant without more convincing proof it is a real 80's vintage model. Wonder who bought this one & hope I'm wrong & they got a beautiful killer vintage Artist, with a swapped out bridge. That's what's fitted to that particular guitar. The nut on my '82 AR305 isn't 1/2 & 1/2, it's the same as the one in the picture. The speed knobs look correct to me, too, but I must say the cloud adornment has me intrigued. I can't recall having seen one previously with the letters in relief in an etched surround. Look at the Weir the guy's selling. Definitely some dings but "no repairs done and doesn't need any"...look at the neck joint. There's too much damage - even marks at the glue joint. JohnS, you know, I'd never previously noticed the Ibanez logo inside the rectangle. I really must try cleaning my glasses!
