Hi all-

I was just looking around Craigslist this evening and pounced on a 1981 Ibanez Blazer Custom for $150. It's well played and the neck feels amazing and worn in. The pups sound nice and the guitar has a good natural sound to it that I can feel resonating into my belly when I play it, always a good sign.

The finish was sanded off the body at some point long ago and there's a good amount of body wear which doesn't bother me particularly. I like that it looks kind of beat. I do, however, want to make sure the wood isn't going to get damaged, so I'm curious if I need to oil or protect the wood in any way just to make sure no harm comes to the body?

Next, the trem was replaced or even perhaps installed by the owner. There was a 3rd party selling the guitar for his friend, so he wasn't 100% on details, only that it wasn't original. My questions are, does the trem look to be installed properly? After getting home and taking a careful look at the guitar the bass-side looks like it's perhaps not parallel with the treble side, specifically farther forward towards to neck by a few mm's. Could this be an over-tight spring? The intonation isn't far out of wack at all, so when I first played it, nothing seemed amiss.

Next, does anyone know know what make of trem this is? It doesn't look like garbage, but I can't identify trems to save my life.

Lastly, the guitar could use some action adjustment and the truss rod is not one I've seen before - ie: the Allen wrench variety. It almost looks like there should be a tool that goes into the small holes up there, but I'm uncertain what it might look like or where to get one. Is this perhaps a bullet truss that needs the bullet at the end for adjustment?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Lee
