Info and Opinions on AX120s?

My first, and still only, electric is a 2000 AX120BK. Ibanez has changed it a little since then. The newer ones have a MUCH nicer neck pocket instead of the HUGE block-like one on mine. They have the AH-3 and AH-4 pickups whereas mine has the AH-1 and AH-2. The newer pickups aren't as bright sounding, which is a good thing, I think. If you put EMGs in one, I'm very sure you'd have an incredible guitar! The AH pickups aren't bad, but their not super duper wonderful either. The EMGs would handle higher gain much better. The upper fret access could be a little better, but it's not too bad. I'd strongly suggest you put 10-46 gauge strings on it. Mine had 9-42 at first and became much thicker sounding with 10-46. Also, a good setup will make the guitar play like a dream! The neck isn't thin like on an S or RG. It has a more "classic" feel as Ibanez puts it. The guitar excels at rhythm playing. It handles lower tunings very well. Ultra-fast lead playing isn't what this guitar was made for, but it can be done! And the binding is pretty nice, too! I'd say this is the best $300 (or so) guitar you can get! If you have a little more to spend, the AXS32 is the set neck version of the AX and is very comfortable to play. They sound very similar, but have better upper fret access. I hope this helps! I see GAX, AX, and AXS in the stores here frequently.
