Opinions of Steve Vai Jem Guitars?

Where do they sit in the gutiar world as far as tone and playability? What do you think of the overall quality of these instruments? I do like the look, on Steve Vai. The fusion of functionality and form is cool with the lion claw and the monkey grip. The guitar is very well put together. The quality of the higher end Korean-built guitars are at the very least, equal to those built in Japan, IMO. The action and feel of the neck is absolutely fantastic (almost "electric", if you know what I mean), although out of the box the guitar required a bit of adjusting to get it that way. The neck had a pretty nice up-bow when I got it. I went to lighter gauge strings and gave the neck some relief and with a bit of tweaking she settled right in. The satin green finish over the quilted maple is nothing less than stunning. Everyone I know that has seen the guitar for the first time is a bit set back by its looks. I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on it. And the vine just puts this guitar’s physical appearance over the edge. The guitar sounds bright and articulate when amplified, but is a bit lacking in volume when played acoustically. On the down side, the shape of the body is a bit odd; almost as is if it’s a tad too wide. And the elongated sound hole only exaggerates the appearance that guitar has been stretched a bit sideways. That extra width makes it awkward to play sitting at first, but you do get used to it after a while. This leads me to my biggest complaint about the guitar: There’s no upper strap button. The brass rosette around the sound hole is a bit sharp around the edges. I play a lot with my fingers and I tend to drag them across it often. I wish they had inlayed that into the body or flared the edges a bit to smooth the transition between it in the top of the body.
