Gang,

I'm curious if anyone has any experience removing a black dyed rosewood fretboard. Is it worth the trouble, and will it come back to its normal color?

After a few "buffings" with 0000 steel wool and many lemon oil treatements over the past 25 years, my '77 Ibanez has a very natural rosewood fingerboard. I should mention that it did not take 25 years to get this way - it really wasn't hard.

I'm trying to reverse this process. I have steel wool in vinegar, which is supposed to turn black in a couple weeks and is used to "ebonize" rosewood. It's been at least 6 weeks and I still have a hunk of steel wool in clear, white vinegar. No idea why this isn't doing what it's supposed to...
