Hi everyone,

I found a Destroyer at a local pawn shop. The guy who works there told me it's a DT555. There is no indication of the model number anywhere on the guitar. The headstock has the Ibanez logo and then “Destroyer II” in smaller letters. The neck runs through the body. If I am not mistaken, is this the “Phil Collen” model? The main thing that stopped me from buying it on the spot, is that I noticed the tremolo is an actual kahler,….didn’t the DT555 come with ibanez’ own tremolo system? Also, I noticed the knobs on the volume and tone look a little different from those I’ve seen in photos of Collen’s actual destroyer.

The guitar isn’t in mint condition (mostly scratches and a couple of dings) but I guess it’s nice enough for a guitar of that age. I played it and it sounds very good, nothing wrong with the electronics. The shop is asking $800 for it, which I will try to bargain with them a little if this is indeed a genuine DT555. I just don't want to buy it and find out I paid an arm and leg for some other model of destroyer, that someone transformed into a Collen lookalike.

I managed to get a couple of pictures of the guitar, so perhaps some of you with more knowledge about classic Ibanez guitars can give me some info on it. Any help would be appreciated.

Marcus

P.S. I don't know how to post pictures here, so I uploaded them to image dump and will post the links here.

Hard to tell from the pics (they're too small).

Is it a DT555?

Marcus:

Check out this thread for some info and pictures of the DT555.

Doesn't look like the Kahler is original. Sorry.

That is indeed a DT-555BK The bridge is not original. With a K84 serial is should have the Pro rock'r. Also the knobs should be gold with black rubber grips. Also from the small photo's I can't really tell, but it look like it has a replacement pickup in the bridge position.
