Yikes! December '82 is probably the first month of production, so it's rare, but that's an outrageous price. Someone really wanted this guitar.

Yeah, but that was every seller's dream (if it was legit, anyway); two single digit idiots getting into a bidding frenzy. Where are those guys when I'm selling something?

2 people, not wanting to lose the auction, probably entered high maximum bids expecting the bidding to stop much sooner. Yeah, the seller made out on this auction. Maybe the buyer just had to have that guitar - it's probably worth the money if you compare it to other guitars on the market.
I've overbid on an Ibanez because I knew that the quality of the guitar was about equal to guitars costing three times my bid. I overbid - and still lost that auction. 9 months later I found the exact same model and color and a more rare year ('83 model made in December '82 again). It's mine and I paid a lot less. The difference? Quality of the photos posted in the auction.
