Author Message   Audesys Username: Audesys Registered: 01-2006 Posted on Monday, January 09, 2006 - 6:20 pm:    Here's a real silly question - I just bought a sz520 and can't really figure out the pot configuration. (two volumes and a tone?). What's confusing me is that when the pickup switch is in the bridge position and all the pots are at zero, the pickups are still active (ie sound is coming through the amp when I play) - is this normal? In the other two pickup positions it's dead silent when just the pot closer to the neck is set to 0. I've searched everwhere on the net and there's so much conflicting info on this model (and i didn't get any documentation with the guitar?)- so can someone please set me straight?! So I guess the bridge volume pot must be faulty. It is supposed to cut of either one of the pick up signals and doesnot do that properly. As Paul describes, these guitars do not have a classic two pup/three-way switch configuration. To expand on his description, the bridge volume knob (middle) controls the volume when the switch is "down". The neck volume knob (top) controls the volume when the switch is "up". When the switch is in the center position, both the bridge and neck volume knobs are active, controlling the output of the respective inner coils. With the switch in the center position, having either volume knob set to zero will effectively mute the output. Otherwise, the two volume knobs can be used to blend the output between the two inner coils. If the pickups were replaced, it is likely that the switch was incorrectly wired. If you like, I can get you a shot of the control cavity of my 520. Hope this helps. I took it back and it seems it was a dirty pot causing the problem (it's a new guitar by the way). Anyway i have it back now and it's all working properly. Excellent! Thanks again for your help.
