MY RG ARRIVED- 450 OR 550?

Author Message   Bigkahuna Username: Bigkahuna Registered: 04-2006 Posted on Saturday, April 29, 2006 - 10:55 pm:    FROM THE CATALOGS ON IBANEZ RULES....THE RG550 APPEARS TO BE THE ONLY RG OFFERED IN THIS COLOR CONFIGURATION (BLUE WITH A BLUE MIRRORED PICK GUARD AND BLUE TINTED KNOBS AND SWITH - BLACK HEAD STOCK WITH CHROME WRITING).....THE MYSTERY IS THAT IT HAS A ROSEWOOD FRETBOARD AND A LO-TRS.....IS MY GUITAR A RG450? Are the model and color combinations listed in the catalogs set in stone? Is it possible there were different variations of model and color combintions available?   Mr_roadstar Username: Mr_roadstar Registered: 06-2002 Posted on Monday, May 01, 2006 - 3:27 am:    There is no RG450 listed for 2000 or 2001 in the US catalogs. It may be a model from another market. Or somebody may have added the pickguard and knobs to an RG470. Or it may be a limited or "spot production" model built for a specific customer. These weird variants seem to be fairly common. Makes for a real pain in the arse trying to ID them. We had limited production models through AIMM in our stores. Ibanez and Fender (among others) would build these by request in runs of 500 or less. They were nothing special, just different combinations of colors and/or features from regular production models. Steve   Bigkahuna Username: Bigkahuna Registered: 04-2006 Posted on Monday, May 01, 2006 - 5:09 am:    Thanks for the input Steve....no matter what it is I am definitely satisfied with what I got for $200....it is definitely a mystery....when I get back from the Philippines I will attempt to post a picture of it... This is the first time in my life I have ever owned a tremolo and I must say that for all the bad rap the lo-trs gets.....I have yet to be able to knock it out of tune...even mange to clear the fine tuners with my heavy pick hand...the one thing I do notice is slack in the bar that is audile from time to time.....other than that....so far so good... I think I will drop some new pickups in next...I was thinking an EVO2 in the bridge and either an EVO or a Breed in the neck....thoughts anyone???
