JUNK...Bolt on neck?Dot inlays?Thats not a real dt 555...That looks like some 90s reissue even though the serial number says 83... if you want the real dt 555 like the phil collen model the axe should be a set neck with block abalone inlays...Also get the serial number so you can make sure its from the 80s(1983-85?)Anything that has less than that is not a 555...
Always make sure there is a pic of the neck joint,so you can make sure its not a bolt on....I once bought a destroyer cause i assumed since it had the block inlays that it was a set neck.At the last minute I asked the seller if it was a set neck and he said no,a bolt on.Be careful on ebay.

The serial number is C85****. Laaz may know what the model number is. I don't think it was offered in the USA.

The model number of that Destroyer is DT155. Since the pickups have the 3-point mounting and look like V2s they seem to be original, although the black color is unusual. A reason for that could be that neither V2s nor cream colored pickups in general were officially offered for the '85 models. Maybe the reason for changing the pickup colors was that DiMarzio apparently holds a patent on the double cream colored bobbins...

Shouldn't that be DTX155?

I have never seen a DT155 with a ProRock'r trem. They always have a 6-point or a Powerocker. This is also the first example with Gold hardware.

There is nothing like this guitar in the 1985 US catalog.

The ad is German. The guitar is in Germany. The US catalog doesn't cover all models made.
It's a DT555 limited edition, it's in the Argus list (Switzerland):

1983/1986 DT555 Ed limite, tricky neck, trickle, 3 hb V2, vib Pro Rock, acc or 1180 second hand

http://www.guitareelectrique.com/argus_iba.html

As you can see it's the most expensive DT in the list and the owner writes it's all original (I have a Master degree in German language and literature).
He writes he's got to sell with a "heavy heart".
If you're into pointy hardrock guitars it's quite cheap.

Greetz,

OK, looks like I stand partly corrected...

Having said that: Even if it's not a DT155, that guitar is definitely not a DT555! Has anybody seen any of those before, that were made in 1985? Maybe the specs were changed and it is in fact a DT155?!?

Ginger:
Since you regularly refer to that Argus list: What's up with that list actually? As far as I could figure out it is a "Sold"-list of a Swiss shop. Am I correct? For using that list as a reference, it would be important to know how "up to date" that list is 'cause many of the prices seem outdated, not to mention the many errors like:

- all Musician models were made from 1978-1982 and are listed with 800 Euros
- the AR3000 & AR5000 were Doublenecks and are listed with 1150 Euro each
- the AR1500 & AR1505 were equipped with V2 pickups and sold for 480 Euro each (I wish I had a time machine...)
and so on.

The model DT555 is even listed both as a bolt-on neck as well as a set-neck guitar?!?

If I'm correct with that Argus being a list of instruments sold by only ONE shop, I think it should be taken exactly as that but not as a reference for worldwide or even European prices. I don't think that the prices in Switzerland are very representative since Ebay UK and Germany seem to be the largest European markets.

If my assumption about the Argus list is wrong, please let us know how that list is put together.

"The US catalog doesn't cover all models made."

Hence the reason I specified "US Catalog".

No Juergen,

Argus indeed sells guitars.
But the PRICE GUIDE is meant as reference for assurance questions or other evaluations of the collection.

READ their "MODE D'EMPLOI":

"Cet argus est une orientation sur les tendances des quotations maximum utilisées pour des questions d'assurances et autres évaluations de collection.
La vraie valeure de vente ou spéculative dépend de l'état, du moment, de la mode.
Celle-ci reste basée sur l'offre et la demande
et peut-être diminuée de 50% par rapport à notre argus maximum qui est calculé à 100%"

TRANSLATION OF THE FIRST PART:

[This argus is an orientation on the tendencies of the maximum quotations used for insurance questions and other collection evaluations.]

TRANSLATION OF THE SECOND PART:

[The true sale value or speculatio value depends on the condition, on the moment, on what's fashionable. This will alway be based on offer and demand and perhaps reduced with 50% compared to our Argus maximum which is calculated at 100%.]

If you click on the other brands you will see that for instance (nearly) all Gibsons and Fenders are on it. Prices have been updated in the beginning of 2006. Last year the prices of my 2355M and Gibson The Paul were lower.
But the list is not without typing errors!

I don't know, how the list is put together. What I know is the purpose of it. You can read what it's for!
What I know also is that they have an Argus even more complete and up to date which you can buy.
It's in a magazine called GUITAR COLLECTOR. You could have read this on their site!

I guess the estimates of the guitars are based on their own expertise (with a French/Swiss perspective). The prices are often higher than the prices in Germany. They are prices for mint or near mint condition! The 2355M for instance is on it for €1670.=
Type 2355 in Russels database and look for the naturals (NT) not being FA100:
http://www.fordforums.com.au/guitar/searchguitar2.php
The best result you find is $1150.= for a 1975 in mint condition (10/10). That's €905.=
I don't think they're low balling.
But they don't overestimate flat bolt-on solid bodies. They were the easiest to produce. Many collectors pay extra for a myth. Perhaps the Argus people are a bit hollow body and thinline body oriented.

But I have criticism too. But they are improving.
I was happy to see that they updated the prices of the classical Andorra guitars. They were way to low on the old list. It's a huge work estimating all these guitars. First they did the 3 main brands, now they added several others.

I'm happy that it's available.
