Anyone else see this on ebay?
I have never seen a single humbucker, single volume Blazer listed anywhere before.
Anyone know if this left the factory this way?

Blazerplayer:

I can't find any documentation for a one humbucker Blazer. While anything is possible, I wouldn't be convinced that this is factory original unless I pulled the pickguard and saw it for myself. Maybe it's the photos, but the pickguard material has a dull, matte look.

It's amazing how the seller stretched the description to make a connection with EVH.

it looks like a BL50 I found it on the Geman catalog for 1981. It originaly had a super 70.

Freak:

I would have guessed the BL350 because the BL50 and BL70 were hardtails and they were mahogany rather than ash. Even the BL300 was a hardtail. The BL350 was the a trem equipped model in ash, but it had 3 SB single coils.

I wonder what the routs look like under that pickguard?

Yeah I didn't noticed the hard tail. The pics are blurry on the catalog scan and my eyes are also! So Maybe this is the 350 but how do you explain the single hum. You can see the 3 holes for the original pup but wheres the tone knob if it was a modded BL50? Hmmm!

Ànd the BL550 is the only one with gold hardware in the catalogue description, although the photographs of the BL350 show gold hardware.

Anyway, he should have looked for an original pickup or a rewind. Now he had to drill an extra hole in the pickguard. Would be nice if we could take a peep at the routings under it. From the outside it's a nice piece of ash... (if you're into hot rods...) but as long as the Duncan is in it, it's a player... so pay a player's price and start looking for a good three screw Super 70.

The bl50 has nickel and brass hardware but the ebay guitar looks like it has Ibanez Smoothe Tuner 2's on it rather then Gotoh tuners. Then you gotta ask yourself is the pickguard original. The 3 holes say yes and no because it could have been replaced before the new pup was added hence the 3 holes then the extra hole for a 2 screw mount!

The BL50 had two Super70 pickups, not one.

Gotoh made the Smooth Tuner II for Ibanez. They are identical except for the logo.

This guitar is a BL350 with a pickguard change.

Unless somebody can prove otherwise...

Thanks Steve! Like I said earlier my eyes are not what they used to be. I couldn't see 2 pups in the BL50 in that catalog scan.

Yer welcome, Freaky.

I find it ironic that the seller claims a single humbucker rout, but offers no photographic evidence...

Hey thanks for all the feedback. So this leads me to another question. Were all the Blazer bodies routed to accept both single coil and humbucker configuration? I guess I could pull the scratch plate on mine.. but is easier to ask you fine folk.

I went ahead and pulled the scratch plate, and sure enough these were routed differently single coil v humbucker. Here is a shot of my BL550.

Ok, so here is an 81 Blazer with a single bridge pickup and one knob (volume only) with trem. The guy claims it's all original. Has anyone found out more about this unusual model?

I'm looking at it tomorrow and if it's as clean as he says I may pick it up.

I got the Blazer today (finally got a chance to look at it). It is a single pup, single volume knob with C810155 on the neck plate. Frets are good, pup's a replacement and there's a crack in the pick guard. It's missing the back spring cover and the whammy bar. Otherwise, the skunk stripe one piece maple neck is straight, bullet adjuster...all in all in pretty good shape for the price.

Anyone suggest a place to get a replacement pick guard and back cover? I'm also now looking for a 3 screw Super 70 if someone has one laying around.

Here's a couple of shots of the body under the pick guard. Only routed for a single pup.

What's the chance the neck & neck plate were put on a non-Blazer body?

I'll pull the pup when I restring the guitar, but for now the strings are new and I'll wear them out first. It's definitely not original, but it sounds good. I played it several hours last night and its has terrific tone (to my surprise).

I suppose it's possible to put a Blazer neck on a non-Blazer body, but it seems like a lot of trouble for a $100 guitar. Are there any Ibanez identifying marks on a blazer body? It is one hefty piece of edge glued ash for sure.

The Blazer bass was routed for only one bridge pup. I wonder if the bass body was used and attached to the 6 string neck for a few issues? Other than here, I can't find any reference to a single pup Blazer either, but this guitar does not look like a Frankenstein by any stretch.

Gidday Pitchpocket,

You can get a pickguard from a bloke on ebay called "fxguitarman1".

He has blazer ones in stock but he will also custom make pickguards for you if you trace the outline or send the old one to him.
