In my opinion ,if it's in a good condition and you like it,go for it, it's quite a reasonable price, you will have trouble finding the same relation price-quality.
good luck
cheers

Correction Alex, that's €695.52 ($872.40)
The list price in 1987 was $1099.
So, you would be paying 79,67% of the list price.

http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/price/1987/2_Jun/p03.jpg

The Argus list says €550.- ($689.87) which is 62.77% of the 1987 list price or less.
http://www.guitareelectrique.com/argus_iba.html

Personally I would try to find it used for 2/3 (66.7%)
80% is rather high, except when it's NOS with a little shop wear.

In the Google cache I found a BIN for 1095.- from power seller Wesstepp.
Item number: 7404161455. Ended 12 April '06.
It didn't sell.

Two weeks before that he had tried to sell it for $1145.-. Ended 01 April '06.

I guess, they're not very wanted. Most Artist collectors seem to like Gibraltar bridges and tailpieces more.

But if you like a tremolo on an flame maple Artist, you could go for it. It's a matter of personal taste, just like a Bigsby on a Les Paul.

Although the Tremolo-Artists doesn't seem as popular as the Bridge/Tailpiece models, they are great and pretty rare guitars. The price depends on the Finish as well, the rarest is Fire Red (FR) followed by Marine Sunburst (MS) and Pearl White which was most common.

Here are the production numbers of the '86/'87 versions with the Edge-Tremolo:

1986
20 FR
63 MS
176 PW

1987
11 FR
22 MS
62 PW

Guys:

As much as I love discussing ARs, I'm moving this thread to the Cool Contemporary section because the guitar under dscussion is not pre-1980.

Thanks,
