I have a '97 RG470 with LO-TRS II bridge. When last changing strings, I overtightened and stripped the 3mm Allen screw on the high E string's saddle (the screw that tightens the string clamp). Neither the retailer that sold me the guitar nor the other Ibanez dealer in town has the right screws in stock to replace it. They both ordered a set of screws for me, but Ibanez hasn't shipped them the parts in nearly three weeks. Is parts availability a widespread problem?

I accept responsibility for damaging the screw, but this is ludicrous. The next closest Ibanez dealer is an hour's drive away.

I just tried to order some parts from Ibanez through a local dealer and was shocked at what Ibanez told the dealer!

I wanted to get replacement machines with the classice Ibanez pearl tips, rubber banded control knobs and Quick Change II tailpiece. I need the metal parts in Chrome and the knobs in black.

The Ibanez official web site has a complete "parts catalog" listed with tons of photos, descriptions and parts catalog numbers. I supplied all of the information to the local dealer who placed the call. What the dealer got from the Ibanez rep was unbelieveable. Ibanez told the dealer that the parts numbers on the web site are "wrong... we don't have those parts... what we get from Japan differs completely from the site..." etc!

I could not believe it. If Ibanez puts parts on it's web site claiming they are available and this is the kind of run-around they give when someone actually wants to buy them, then why list them on the site at all? If this is the case with parts, who's to say the same thing won't apply to complete guitars advertised on the site?

Sheesh! Corporate responsibility seems to have all but disappeared lately!

Makes me wonder if the U.S.-made Ibanez models have this problem.

Here's the follow-up to the LO-TRS II bridge string stopper bolts that I ordered:

The screws came to the dealer after five weeks of waiting. They fit. BUT they're noticeably different than the original. These string stopper bolts are a tad shorter, and the wrench end is smaller and rounder than the original barrel-shaped ones. These look exactly like the screws on the top of Jackson's JT-500 and JT-580 Floyd Rose-licensed bridges (I got so desperate I was cruising music stores and pawn shops with a 3 mm Allen wrench). Anyway, because something now looks "wrong," I'll have to replace the remaining five screws if I ever trade or sell the guitar. I love this guitar (RG470), so I won't worry about doing that anytime soon. After almost two years, the fit and finish on this guitar is still superb for its price point (helped by the fact that I rarely wear a belt that can scratch the back of the back; never when I play guitar).

The moral to the story: These are musical instruments, not artillery. Be kind to them, and don't strip screws like I did. Unless you're prepared to deal with a long wait.

Might want to check out what's available on http://www.ibanezrules.com. The guy was pretty short with me when I asked him about buying a 7 string bridge from him but I have to admit that the guy knows what's up and has a good amount of parts for high-end Ibanez'.
