I picked up a DT420 Reissue off Ebay this weekend and I had a question. I've been trying to locate the specs for it, but so far haven't had any luck and they weren't in the 2002 catalog.

I know the DT200 Reissues had a mahogony body, but I've heard that the DT420's had a basswood body. I haven't taken delivery of the guitar yet, so I'm just curious if anyone can fill in the details while I wait for my new toy to arrive.

Ibanez Reissues the Destroyer (press release)

July 21, 2002

Ibanez is reissuing the a limited number of the Ibanez Destroyer, a guitar favorite of 80's Heavy Metal rock. "We brought out a scaled down version of the Destroyer, the DTX120, at the 2000 Summer NAMM Show," said Jon Romanowski, the National Sales Manager of Ibanez (as well as an unashamed Destroyer devote').

"That guitar has been a great seller, but it whetted everyone's appetite for the full monty, so to speak. So here it is, in the original size and specs and from the original factory where most of the first Destroyers were created. The good news is the price is unbelievable close to the original 80's price. The bad news is we don't have a whole lot of them and I don't know what the future will bring."

Thanks Bear,

That was exactly what I was looking for.

Hoping this guy gets it shipped soon then, I can't wait to play it.

Anyone know if they actually released the production numbers, this guitar might be collectable after all... bought it to be a player, and hot rod it a little bit, but from the looks of the press release, I may leave this one unmolested.

Bear... what do you think of the construction of your DT-200? From the neck and body standpoint? I'm wondering if one of these would be a good starting point for my hot rod Destroyer.

The only real gripe I have with the DT200VA is the finish. Ignoring my personal dislike of the color, it's very thick polyester or polyurethane. Otherwise the guitar is typical of the better Korean made instruments. If I bought another I'd get the Candy Apple.

There's butt-loads of them available used. Hotrod the snot out of it. Mines getting a paintjob, chrome pickups rings, and V1 / V2 pickups to replace the Powersounds. The later version has Infinity pickups (INF3 & INF4).

Got the DT-420 in on Saturday.

It's nice, plays way nicer than I was expecting it to actually, and it sounds wonderful, and I don't notice the neckjoint as much as I do on my DT50. I think I'm making the right choice to leave it original.

I had plans to hotrod this, send it to a custom shop I know to replace the basswood body with Korina with a maple top and a Floyd Rose, but I think I'll pick up a DT-200 next and hotrod that guitar instead.
