Author Message   Chucke99 Username: Chucke99 Registered: 2-2007 Posted on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 11:22 am:    Moving this discussion from the tail end of another one in Replicas, per Johns's suggestion (thanks): Following on to what Ginger was saying on another thread about buying "now" what was quality back "then" (in other words, if it was made well back then, it's more collectible now) of the current crop of Ibanez guitars (Artcores, more specifically) are there any that are quality-made, or are they all B-grade? I'm thinking in particular of the AWD83TTRD (the RD stands for RED), which I've seen hanging in a local music store for quite a while. Every time I see it, it calls my name... "Chuck! Chuck! Buy me!" Thoughts? The only beef I have is the saddle on my .010 E string. It keeps cutting the string and breaking it quite often. When I bought my 2630 in 1978, I didn't consider whether it was well made or not. I was young and foolish, I wanted a Gibson ES-335 but couldn't afford one, and I saw a WAY COOL LOOKING Ibanez hollowbody and bought it instead. The AWD83T looks way cool to me now (and I'm still somewhat foolish). The only question I have is, underneath, is it a quality instrument (as the 2630 turned out to be) and will it stand the test of time?   Fingersmcoy Username: Fingersmcoy Registered: 10-2006 Posted on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - 10:17 pm:    chucke:It def. is a nice looking guitar and prob. plays great also- but as far as it holding its value or becomming a collectors piece i have my doubts.Unless there is something unique about a certain chinese made Ibanez guitar, i would say it would only go down in value.This is only my opinion some might want to weigh in and give theirs.P.S. BM stands for Burl Maple. If AS103BM and AS103SM had pickguards of same colour as the body (my eyes don't like rosewood here) I would say they are very beautiful. AS103NT looks more cool and sophisticated. I guess I'll have to purchase AS103BM and NT so I have all (known) colours Seems there are occasionally different colours (and models) around the world. E.g. AS93 is VLS on ibanez.co.jp and BLS on ibanez.com . AW102NT is on the European(?) Ibanez catalog and I have seen it on web shop sites. If you compare Artcores (at least those numbered greater than 80) with any brand's models in the same price range you will see that they represent better handicraft and are better set up straight from the box. Eyes get used to traditional colours. At first I didn't like AS103NT (NT different from older NT) and then AS103SM very much but now they are not at all "strange looking", and I may even accept SM's rosewood pickguard one day.
