Since getting the 2670re I've developed a serious case of 12-string fever. So, today I walked into the local Sam Ash and look what I see hanging on the wall:

AR112FrontWhole AR112FrontClose AR112FrontHead

Now, it's mine! It's a March '82 AR112AV and in very good shape, but not mint. The pickup toggle snapped off and there's an extra strap button hole in the back. Something I've never seen before is the neck finish has been de-glossed. It looks like someone took a buffing wheel to it and removed the shine.

The really weird coincidence is this used to belong to our very own Maniac Mike. He also traded them a red LP replica (post lawsuit), a PF300 and a '82 AR300 that someone had removed the tri-sound switches (put in wooden plugs) and change the Super 58s for black EMGs.

That's my old AR112. I traded it to Maniac Mike.

The extra strap lug hole and the "deglossed" neck are my doing. The pickup switch was broken in transit to Mike. I sent him a replacement switch but he apparently never installed it.

Bear:

What a small world! Except for your "mods", the guitar is in great shape. Almost no fret wear. And the case is nearly perfect. Thanks for taking care of it so well.

By the way, how did you degloss the neck? It's a very neat job. Do you think it could be buffed back to a shine?

It was in good shape when I bought it off eBay in 2000. I was hoping the AR112 was less neck-heavy than the 2618-12 I had previously. It was, but not enough. The relocated strap lug was a failed attempt to improve the balance.

I use Scotchbrite on glossy necks. It'll buff out if you want it shiny again.

Here's the production numbers for the AR112:
1980 - 4
1981 - 108
1982 - 52
1983 - 66
1984 - 36
Total - 266
