Ok im not sure if this is in the right spot, if its not im sorry but here it goes.

Hello this is my first post here and maybe soon i will also have my first ibanez around the corner. I have came across a early 80's left handed AR100. I was basically wondering if they are built well or if there are common flaws on them. I was also wondering about how much i should be looking to spend on one. Its flawless. I have played my bass players right handed one and i like the feel of it, but its right handed. Thank you for any help, and have a great day.

I won't be alone here telling you that mid to late '70's and early 80's Ibanezes are among the most well crafted and beautifully appointed guitars ever to come off a production line.

There are no "common" flaws, but like anything else, you need to examine carefully a 30-40 yr old guitar for signs of modification, abuse or issues resulting from lack of attention.

There's not much (to which 'Zilla could attest) that couldn't be done to correct past transgressions.

As far as price.....depending on who's willing to spend what, I would think between $800 and $1100 is what the current range would be.

Good luck & welcome to the forum

Relicblackout:

Welcome to ICW. You've come to the right place to ask questions about the AR100.

Without seeing the guitar itself, one can only talk in generalities. So, here goes: generally the AR100s are great playing and well built guitars. Some feel the earlier in the 80s, the better. But all opinions are open to (endless) debate.:-) If you know the first 3 characters of the serial number, we could tell you the year of manufacture.

Common flaws? Ahhhh...let me see...hmmmm...I know there must be at least one. Maybe that it's heavy...but generaly less than an LP of the same period. So, that can't be one. OK, I got it! It's not an AR300 with all the cosmetic extras. :-)

Value on an AR100? Unfortunately, you are asking at a time when prices are escalating on many of the Ibanez models from that period. Six months ago, you might be able to get one for $500 less.

However, a lefty, in mint condition? You don't see that combo everyday. A dealer would probably ask $1000.00, but a reasonable private sale would be in the $800 range (I'm thinking $600.00 + $100.00 for lefty + $100.00 for mint). An OHSC allows some room to negotiate. But I personally don't think that any used case should be valued at greater than $50.00, unless it's a specialty case (like for a doubleneck) or an aluminum flight case.

So i decided to hold off on the Artist that i was looking at. I saw the link to the artist 100 with the super 58's and saw that those have push pull pots and i would love to have one of those, which the ar100 i was looking at didnt have. So if anyone had an early 80's ar100 lefty with super 58's push pull, or sees one, let me know im looking.
