i was leafin through a guitar mag i have and was interested to see an article with John, it had pictures of his guitars and one of them is a Blue
universe with his signature two knobs and the three way slector switch.
it also has plain dot inlays but at the top of the fretboard rather than in the center

i was wondering if anyone has seen this?
i have a picture of it if none believes me
and what are your thoughts on this

GuitarGuy,
If you get to see the 7th Heaven video, the one Hoshino gave out last year to anyone who bought a 7 string, he's playing it in that video. It's a pretty sweet guitar that's for sure. Petrucci himself kind of comes off a little geeky in the video, I don't know a whole lot about him, I have not been exposed to much Dream Theater but I do know he's a fantastic guitarist. I'm more of a Vai fan but that's not the question. Yeah, I've seen it, it looks like his JPM with a 7th string....

Have you seen the blue one Munky is playing now? The reason I ask is because it has a white tremolo system! I've never seen a white tremolo system before, pretty cool!!!

yeah i havnt seen the 7th heaven video yet
so ill keep my eye open for it and i think ive seen that one monkey has thats just a custom RG7 but i think it is just the white metal they use for the bridge not actually white because im lookin at it right now and its appears to be just a dull metal colour
but we could be lookin at the different guitars

the JP models are not Universes. They are 7 string JPM's/RG's. Just pointing it out. If they were Universes they'd have a single coil in between the humbuckers.

Todd,
I think your mistaken. Actually your part right.. Petrucci's model is not a Universe... But it's also not an RG or JPM. It's a one-of-a-kind 7 made for him by Ibanez's Custom Shop...

Scott,

I should have clarified. You're right too. His seven does have attributes that more closely resemble the JPM, though. That's the point I was trying to make. It has the knobs and switches in the same position as the JPM. Also, the pickups are custom wound Dimarzios that are not the Blaze7's that most people think. They are made to sound like the Air Norton and the Steve's Special...just like the JPM. Too bad Ibanez won't produce those for consumers!

Todd,
I know, Ibanez's Custom Shop used to be open to the public but they closed it for some reason... I also like the 7 Dino Cazares (Fear Factory) plays. double dice inlay at the 12th fret, one humbucker at the bridge position, string thru body, no pickguard. It's pretty sweet!!

That 7 that JP plays is pretty nice though, I wish I could get my hands on a flamed top 7 string...

Scott,
Check this out:
http://customguitar.lastplanet.com/

They sell replacement bodies for Jems, Universe's and RG-7s. I also talk to them about making me a custom RG/Jem style guitar. they are very accommadating.

You could buy an RG7 style body with flame maple top and have someone paint it. That would be sweet. Are you trying to make one like JP in the 7th Heaven video?

Let me know what's going on!

John,
Yeah, it's in Bensalem, PA.

Todd,
Pretty sweet place. There are several places one can get a body or neck. I'm not too sure about my guitar building skills so I don't know if I'll ever build one by myself. I do have a RG7621 that I would like to modify. There's a guy named Herc Fede that does custom paint jobs and inlay, his stuff is really sweet so I'm considering giving my RG an original swirl with some cool inlay...

Scott,

Yeah, I know of Herc. His stuff is cool. I've thought about having him do a custom job for me.

Question:I have an S470 and I like it...I changed the bridge pickup to a DiMarzio Evolution (the ones made for Steve Via). With the new pick-up it sounds great, but I have been debating trading it in for a JPM P4 (John Petrucci signature series). Anyone want to talk me in or out of that?

hi, i have been an ibanez fan for years. i own a 1990 540p. this guitar was used by alex skolnick, as it was featured with him in the catalog.
although it was made only ten years ago, ibanez has no evidence of its existence. i haven't been able to get much info on it at all. i have even consulted with the instruments co-designer who now works in a st. louis music store.
ok lets get to the point shall we.
approximately ninety percent of the guitars you see in ads with the artists are custom made.
unfortunately their custom shop is not available to the public. so when you see vai, he's not playing an off the shelf jem, nor is satch playing an off the shelf js1000. by the way any info on the 540p would be greatly aprreciated.
