hey i just bought an ibanez jem 555 and it feels great for me but i have some questions:

1-i bought it in great condition for 500 dollars
(but let me tell you that i bought it in mexico an its dificult to find them here )
do you think i did a good buy?

2-is it superior to rg models or it can be compared and is it compared, wich models you compare?

3 is it bad?
because in jem site they say that its not a good guitar
but for me its great and also i have been playing for only five months i think its a guitar more than my level
thanks

Hey man, it's a good guitar if you like it. 500 sounds good to me. Even in Mexico. The reason the people on Jemsite don't like them are several. They hate the half-vine inlay. Can't say I blame them there. Also they don't like the TRS trem. Can't blame them there either. I like the Edge or Lo-Pro Edge myself but the TRS is a good bridge. They do scream, I've played a couple and they play nice. A little better than the RG's in the 500 range.

Bottom line, don't let anyone make you second guess your purchase. If you like it then go with it...

Dude,

1. These guitars retail around $1200 or something outrageous and sell new for around $800 so $500 is a good deal (did you get a case with it?)

2. Yes & no. (see also below). It is better than any model under the RG400 and comparable but not equal to anything higher. It is "endorsed" by Steve Vai and does have Dimarzio Evolution pickups (same on the white and gold Jem7Vwh). No other RG has Dimarzio pickups in it. They all have stock Ibanez pickups.

3. The reason nobody on the Jemsite likes it is because it's like comparing a new Audi or BMW to a Hyundai or Saturn. It doesn't have the pizzaz a Vai signature model warrants.
It lacks the "better" tremolo system called the "Edge" or "Lo-pro Edge". Some RG's (400 and up) use this tremolo. Jemsite people prefer this over the "Lo-Trs" which is on the Jem555 (and also on the lower Satriani models and the Paul Gilbert models). This isn't "as smooth" as the "Lo Pro" or "Edge".
It also does not have a full vine inlay (which shouldn't make a difference since the BSB & DBK only have cheap clear dots with a screwhead pictures underneath and the Rootbeer Jem only had pearl dots).
It also is the cheapest Vai model ever available so naturally it is the least liked. Plus a lot of the Jemsite people are "collectors" who have multiple 1-3 thousand dollar guitars (do your math). Ask someone with more than one BMW or Rolls Royce if they would ever buy a Honda Civic or Hyundai for themselves. Probably not.

If it is in good condition, and plays good, you probably will not outgrow that guitar, unless you become a collector or want different features in a guitar (Strat single coil tones, set necks, non trems, etc.).

If you love it.... then you have a great guitar.... if you don't like it then you have been ripped off! I have nights where I'll sit down and play my JEM77fp and be blissed out! Other nights my RG550 and things will just rock... If its has the sounds you want, and feels good to play.... your a winner!

Cheers, and good playing!
Peter
