Ibanez Artfield guitars. Anybody seen...

Author Message   JohnS Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    On page 114 of Michael Wright's Guitar Stories, Vol. 1 there are some shots from an '88 catalog. One spread is of the Artfield series. Anybody know anything about them? One looks like a "rounded" version of an Artist with symmetrical cuts. The other 2 get progressively more assymmetrical. 2 have flamey tops. An inset shows a bolt-neck joint that is pretty similar to the All Access Neck Joint of the newer Ibanezes. Any and all info is appreciated.   jimeina Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    I've got a 1990 catalog with three Artfield models in it. This was the last year they were made. They're rare, high-end, and expensive - and for good reason. The catalog model text reads: When Ibanez began the development of ARTFIELD, the concept was to incorporate the finest hand-picked woods - bubinga, wenge, maple and mahogany - and design a series of guitars that would use these fine materials to their best advantage. We didn't stop there. Combining the most advanced technology in the guitar industry with meticulous craftsmanship, the ARTFIELD line offers the player an unusually fine series of instruments to satisfy the most discriminating guitarist. These guitars have beautifully carved, rounded bodies, all access neck joints (very much like the one on my Maxxas), an "HQ-Tremolo", "Magnum Lock Pegs", "SSS Ultra Sonic" pickups (could be active), 5 ply mahogany-maple necks with ebony fretboards and 30 frets(!!), and Bubinga bodies. They're awesome. I want one. But I've never even seen one in real life... Everybody should see this. Here's a different URL that makes it easier to navigate all the pictures: Great Guitar Collection This collector has pictures of 2 of the 3 Artfields; the 2 assymmetrical ones. They are very different. The neck joint is completely different. And the really wild shaped one has the fretboard extension on the treble side to get the 30 frets. One reminds me of a PRS with pointed horns. The other has an Ergodyne bass shape. This is a must see (and enjoy!)   Scott Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    Now I can see where Ibanez came up with the shape for their Soundgear basses. They are almost a spitting image of the Artfield. At least that all natural, 30 fret one looks like a Soundgear with that long top horn!   Peter Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    I'm looking for some info on "Starfield" guitars. I know the company nolonger exists and that they were owned by Ibanez. I have a used guitar that looks like a cross between a Strat and a Les Paul Jr., the head stock looks like a PRS.
