hey Dave
i have an FGM 100 and its an early model from 89 its killer
my only problem is its bright yellow
im lookin for the black one with the shartooth inlays from 91 or so around that area
i have played the FGM 400 with all the new sunken in parts its really quite a different feel than the usual FGM
it has a tendancy to fret out alot and sound tinny
but with a good setup im sure that would change

I've been looking for an FGM too - doesn't seem to be many around. Is the S2540 the most similar current model ? I did see an FGM100 recently ( Salmon Pink - whew ! I'd rather have your yellow one )for $550. Is that a good price if it's in excellent shape ? Is there a big difference between the FGM's and the Saber PRO 540-S ? There are more of those available.
Also, Yamaha made a similar slim-line model called the Yamaha RGX Custom in '89. Anybody played one ?
Thanks guys.

I say that salmon FGM too! Nearly bought it, but the color is just too gross! Pro'ly a cool player, but my wife would never let me take it out of the case...

There is a place in Italy that still has NEW FGMs
they have 1 300 and 3 400 models listed in the inventory at www.promusic.net - go to the special offers - guitar section for info.
They're not cheap tho - also I emailed for shipping and other co$ts but no answer yet.
cheers

I own an FGM100 in black with the sharktooth inlays from 1991 (made in Japan, of course). And for anyone wondering, with the right setup they play and sound great. The neck is super fast and the solid mahogany body allows for rich, deep, creamy tone. The FGM100 sports an unusual characteristic in the recessed humbucker mounting rings. Most of Ibanez's S-type guitars have the mounting rings mounted on the upper surface (top) of the guitar. Although not uncommon, the Lo Pro Edge tremolo is recessed nicely as well. These two features make for increased ease of playability. My FGM's former owner closeted the guitar beginning in 1992 and it remained there until I bought it in the summer of 2001. For this reason, its very near mint and quite the beauty.
