I recently was fortunate enough to pick up a '93 s450
for $350 aus. I was hopeing someone could tell me what wood the body is made out of.The guy who sold it swears it is mahogany however another bloke I spoke to told me it was basswood and only the S540ltd was mahogany. It has a V2 humbucker neck,S1 single coil middle and a V1 bucker at the bridge. Can anyone explain the differences in the buckers.Any opinions on these pickups would be appreciated.Should i look at upgradeing to dimarzio or similar.Would i benefit from changeing the S1 to a lace sensor.I am an intermediate standard and would like some advice.I love this guitar.

your frekin lucky you got that deal
i did too only mine was a Frank Gambale model which is very similar but i paid 350
anyways
the S450 and S540 and all the s's are only made in mahogany
they have versions of theguitar with maple tops (flame/quilt)
but none of the S series guitars are made out of anything except mahogany
and as for the pickups they are stock pickups....they are ok
but i would reccomend changing to Dimarzio...if it fits in your budget that is..if not the ones in the guitar should be fine...but if you switch go for a steves special or something like that
or even a trembucker from seymour duncan
these guitars are amazing
the bodies themselves are one of the most killer ideas and Ibanez are the best guitars ever built
