Has anyone ever heard of "Axestar by Ibanez"?? I saw this catalog on eBay, but have never seen one of the guitars... I'll have to keep an eye out: they look cool, and they're pointy!!

I had one of the basses in the 80's but it got ripped off. It wass really cool. The fretboard was a lot narrow-er than a regular bass. I really liked it a lot. It had active pick-ups, but really only liked Duracell batteries, for some reason. It was headless like a "Stein" but didn't use the double ball strings. It used regular bass strings with a lock down at the "lack-of-a" headstock. I'm looking to buy another one if you know the where abouts...........

John:

Is your's like the black one on the cover of the catalog?

Being as your the only one who has one, why don't you give us all a run down on the particulars of it? Send pictures if you'd like.

The reason I started (and continue) this site is to help add to the database of public knowledge on Ibanez guitars. Especially the ones that have faded from the memory of the Hoshino marketing executives, yet are still near and dear to the hearts and fingers of Ibanez fans.

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I just responded to the message Jon posted on july 21st. I bought my Ibanez Axstar guitar in 1985 and still play it. The guitar has a bright red body, black neck and a s-s-h pickup setup.
It is still in excellent condition and I will post a few pictures on this site when I find the time.

I'm glad to hear that there are more Axstar enthousiasts. Any information is welcome.

Marcel

I have one of these too. It's white with D-S-D pickups, full locking trem. This axe is the best guitar Ive ever had. The only guitars I have ever picked up up that were as playable are the realy hi-end les-pauls. Im really jazzed to see other players/enthusiasts. I talked to Ibanez/Hoshino and they said there were no production numbers in US. estimated maybe 300 of these were made. I have #G850069, John & Marcel, what #'s do you have?

I owned a black axstar like in the catalog picture, it was black with black hardware. I sold mine in 91' and have regretted ever since. It was a wicked looking guitar and if I remember correctly it played pretty decent. If anyone has any pictures of one or know where I can buy one, it would be greatly appreciated.

I posted the message above. I have a body from an axstar but no neck or hardware. If anyone knows the scale on the neck I could use that info too. Warmoth said that it would be no problem to make a custom neck for it.

Hey there, i have one of these axstars. mine is a red one, and it looks awsome. i got it from a pawn shop for about $250, all i have heard about it is that it's kinda rare, and ibanez will tell us nothing about it.

Hey all!
I've posted my site in another thread, but here's some updated links:
Current site: http://homepages.dordt.edu/~nthnlvnd/axstar.html
Planned site: http://homepages.dordt.edu/~nthnlvnd/axstar/

And this site has some Axstar information, too, in the Gallery:
http://www.ibanezregister.com/

Enjoy! I'd love to hear any news you hear about the Axstars. I'm planning on updating the site as I find time.

I just discovered the AX70 and AX75 in the Untold Story. I think this would be a nice addition - useful for travel and use in front of the computer because of it's compact size. This steinberger shaped Axstar seems to be less common than the more pointy ones. I'll be on the lookout in the future.
