About the "POWER" model ...?

This starts with picking up a (I've never seen one of these before) Ibanez from a pawn shop. Pointy headstock, 22 frets, '87 model, but the body was weird. Hit the search engines and discover it's a 540P, thick bevelled edge body only made in '87 - '88, then discontinued. Then I read a few comments on this site & others that this is the guitar Satch used on the cover of the "Not of this Earth" album ...but everyone seems to have overlooked the fact that the album was made in '86? Then to add to my confusion, when I dismantled the guitar I discover the stamps on the neck and body join read "440P". It has an Edge trem, Cosmo Black h/ware, H/S/S, coil tap but unlike all the pics I've seen it has a 5 way switch ala' RG, not the 3 micro switches. Does anybody know more about these rarely seen Powers ...yep and Alex Scolnick used the P11 but that was a completely different body shape. I wasn't even aware of the existence of the 540P - Power series but I could verify it's existence via the net ...but then to discover the 440P stamp, well it doesn't exist but I have one! It's all completely black (except for maple neck) so the h/stock face is no help. Sticker on the back says "Made in Japan" F7***** with another MIJ on the Ibanez neck plate. No writing on the p/ups and I think the stacked singles are original, bridge p/up replaced with a SD-JB h/bucker. The other thing is no routing behind the trem which is kinda strange with an Edge! I'm sure it's all original except the bridge p/up. Anybody got a 440P? Can someone explain the album cover ...were they making them in Japan before '87? Appreciate any feedback on this one ...curious! Cheers ..Mick
