I'm probably the luckiest guy in the world as by accident I stumbled upon an Ibanez Artfield AFD-40BG.

These guitars seem to be very rare. I have been searching the net a lot for info on this instrument but there's hardly any info to be found. I know there are 3 other lucky owners of a similar guitar.

She is a beauty! Tells us more about it! Is that 30 frets on the treble side of the fretboard? Do you use them all? :)

The only ones I have heard of reside in Europe. I wonder if they ever made it over to the US?

Hi John,

I found her on a Dutch website where dealers can post their used guitars. Every once in a while I visit this site and do a query on Ibanez.

She was on the top of the list and was advertised as an Ibanez Artwood. The description mentioned the 30 frets and that's when I knew it had to be an Artfield.

I called the store the next morning to verify and they confirmed that it was an Artfield indeed. So I jumped in my car and picked her up.

After I bought it I brought it to Daniel Marcovich, a luthier here in Amsterdam, to have it set up.

The neck pick up has been replaced by a Seymour Duncan. I don't know the type but it is a humbucker the size of a single coil.

It does have 30 frets indeed. I don't use them all :-) I don't know why they put 30 frets on the guitar. The only thing I can come up with is that it it probably meant for 'tapping'.

I don't think they ever made it to the US.

I know there's another one in Holland, one in Germany and one in the UK.
