Hi Musash,

Is this the one for sale on one of the Dutch sites?

It looks like an Artist without paint.

Yeah, thats the one. I am interested to know if it is a production model or a ruined Ibanez :-). I think you are right, a ruined Artist :(.

Musash:

I don't think there's any doubt that this guitar has been overhauled. Especially when you look at the pups, and bridge. The tailpiece and possibly knobs, look original. I can't see the tuners clearly, though.

The thing that's got me wondering is the Ibanez logo appears in black and you say that it has a serial number. Why strip the guitar and put these details back? Gibson put out a line of low-end guitars that looked a lot like this. (The Firebrand series?) Maybe the owner was going for this look?

The neck joint looks like it's the most primitive used on the Artists. That would make it an AR50. That would be consistent with the lack of a cloud tailpiece and chrome (the tailpiece and tuners look to be chrome, but the bridge looks gold???) My '83-'84 Artist/Roadstar catalog shows only the AR100 and it's got gold hardware.

I'm not so sure that I would label it a "ruined Artist". The AR50 is NOT really considered collectible. I bet it's a decent playing/sounding guitar. But not a production model.

Hi all!
Looking at the picture I even wonder if the logo is original....could be done with a permanent marker and a stabile drawing-hand. I myself once painted a Gibson logo on a Morris SG with paint and nobody further away than 10 feet ever noticed. If I would have made a somewhat blurry picture like the one of this "Artist" (I think the previous owner thought he was the "Artist" himself..) you'd never have seen it. Pity what some people do with their guitars :-{
I'd leave my hands off of this one, Musash! Unles you can get it for 10 Euro or so....
Greetz,
Harry

I am not gonna burn my hands on this one Harry, have no fears :-). I only wanted to know if it was a original, but since you guys also have serious doubts I am convinced it is not.

I'm a bit late here. Notice the lack of binding on the body. I believe that would make it an AR30. All the AR50's I've ever seen had binding.

Cheers
Steve

Musash,

Hey dood! There isn't much, if any, literature that shows the AR30. I've only seen a couple on eBay. If the beast in question IS an AR30, that finish might be original. Value? Good question. Any Artist is a good player, so that should make it worth at least $300. Just my $.02

Cheers
Steve
