But from reading various posts, you guys know a lot about Ibanez guitars, so I thought I'd ask you all. About 6 years ago, I bought an Ibanez Talman locally. The person I bought it from said that it was a prototype Talman. He said that there was a stamp of "Prototype" or "Beta" (I can't remember which he said), inside the pickup cavity. I've been waiting for the strings to break, so I can open her up and verify. When I did change strings, I had always forgotten to take off the pickguard to check. So, before the strings break and I do verify, perhaps some of you already know some background information on Talmans...? One odd thing is that there is a serial number on the headstock (F410812). I didn't thinkn 'prototypes' would have a serial number, but I do know that it was built in the Fujigen plant in 1994. But what another thing that strikes as odd, is that after looking through IbanezRules' catalog scans, there are no colors ever offered to this particular Talman. It looks like a TC630, but they were never offered in this green... I plan on selling this guitar as my taste/preferences have changed. But before I do, I'd rather get as much information as possible (so I can pass that along to whomever buys it). Here's some pics... In the 1994 FEBRUARY catalogue they mention 4 colours: GFA = Gravure Flame Amber, BK = Black, PB = Pale Blue, PH = Pale White. And the end of the catalogue the colour chart shows two colours that come pretty close: EG = Emerald Green GM = Green Metallic Yours looks a bit metallic... (am I right?) But I originally thought that it was MA (Metallic Avacado) which was offered on the TC620 in 1995. But the only models that had all single coil (I think) were the TC530 and TC630. But the knobs are chrome (TC630) while the TC530 had strat-style knobs. But it looks like neither of those models had a green finish offered. At first I thought maybe this was a hodgepodge of Talman parts (color from 1995, 1994 serial number, TC630 hardware and configuration, pickguard from an IV body). But the guy I bought it from didn't seem like much of a guitar aficionado. So I doubt this is a Talman "frankenstein" of some sort. I did think that perhaps it was a 95 model made in 94. But green isn't offered in the TC530 nor TC630... Here are the greens for the Talmans: 1994 - None 1995 - TC620 (which had 2 hums) 1996 - TC420, TC620 (also 2 hums) 1997 - TC420 (2 hums), TC740 (single-single-hum) 1998 - TC420, TC220 (2 hums) http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/index.htm Kinda stumped...
